To be on topic and on the nose, the recent record heat waves seem to have inspired the Irish U21s to try and break a few records of their own.
The first attempt came from Conroy, who chased the rebounding record and fell just short by one, finishing with 22 rebounds in a single game. The other highlight was James Horsfall tying the record for most points in a game with 62. Both made incredible contributions to the team throughout the season.
Overall, this season wasn’t as difficult as others. We posted a competitive record of 2–6, with all losses expected and one of the wins coming as a surprise against a team ranked 33 places above us. Starting the season ranked 73rd in the world and currently sitting at 66th, there has been some modest progress.
The team continues to fluctuate—strong in one position at times, while weaker in others. We’ve produced some great players this season, and there’s every reason to believe we can keep that momentum alive next year. At present, we have an abundance of post players and a number of guards, though none particularly stand out compared to previous generations.
