Season 70 is drawing to a close, and with it, another chapter in the journey of the Irish U21s. This year brought tougher competition due to the evolving format of international basketball. While we were often outmatched, our players gave everything—they bled green and left it all on the floor.
Some of this year’s squad were incredibly talented, but we lacked the heavy hitters needed to push further. This season wasn’t a step forward, nor a step back—it was simply the rhythm of the game. For a small nation like ours, not falling off a cliff into the jagged rocks below is a victory in itself.
A 3–4 record was a fair prediction at the start, and that’s exactly how it played out. We won the games we were expected to win, and lost the ones we were expected to lose.
We say farewell to our players:

The draft of new players begins soon. As always, we welcome messages, questions, and scouting tips. Whether these new players can weather the storm remains to be seen—but Master Time will take a break from bating and guide these young men into battle.
As we peer into the ocean of the future, our instruments can’t tell us whether calm waters or a Kraken awaits. But one thing is certain: the crew will stand together, because there’s nowhere else to go.
You can change the captain.
You can shoot holes in the deck.
You can try to turn the ship into an airplane.
But one constant remains:
“We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother.”
