This league has become too tough this season. I have made the difficult decision to put most of my team up for sale. I will probably tank to DIV and will try to build back up with an All-American team as that looks like the only way to get and edge in D2.

That's a tough call but at least you didn't wait too long and can now cash in on that D2 money while running the salary floor for the rest of the season.

Side note: I am skeptical the popular All-American strategy is as beneficial as people believe... Is the weekly merch bonus (25-40K at D2) worth the increased transfer prices of Americans and limiting yourself to only 1-3% of available players? I don't know exactly how much more Americans cost on the TL but it feels higher, especially for trainees. I'm not saying the strategy doesn't have its benefits because it does, but I feel like people don't account enough for the downside of all-American teams

That's a good point, but right now I am making 65k a week on merch and 12k of that looks to becoming from my 1 mil arena design. I don't know if Humanfund is comfortable sharing his merch numbers but I'd be interested in hearing what his merch is since he is an All-American team. Humanfund, no pressure to share if you don't want to!

I am not the best at making money through merchandise and player performance. I spend nothing making more money from it with infrastructure and I rarely even look at my economy page. I realize I should be fired from management like Jerry Jones. I can tell you that I make an extra $31k per week from having home grown and American. Hope that helps.

Someone on the discord shared the following formula for home-grown and locals merch and it's been pretty accurate from my experience: team sales * (local salary + 0.5 * homegrown salary) / total salary. So if you have a fully American team, your local bonus is 1x your team sales and a fully homegrown team is 1.5x

I would think you would almost have to start working on a full homegrown team from day 1, or spend a 3-4 season's promoting down, to start a complete draft rebuild to pull that off. I mean, I know it's a turtle game, but even I'm not enough of a masochist to do that.

Ok, my new strategy is to have all 5 starters as home grown NT players. I’m starting to save scouting point now. See you all again in season 82!

It seems like a homegrown player and an NT player are probably pretty comparable in terms of impact on merchandise over the course of a season. In my experience, a foreign born starter brings in about 5% of their salary and a foreign born NT player brings in about 15% on weeks they play with their NT. So a homegrown player should be bringing in 12.5% or so if the discord estimates are accurate. More reliable, especially since you can’t control a players NT minutes or NT team success.

In a practical sense, it seems like really optimizing for merchandising requires a little bit of everything. Going after anything 100% seems like it would have a pretty high cost in time, TL price, or draft luck. This all assumes you can get roughly comparable players with any of these characteristics I don’t know that the game is big enough for that to be true anymore.
