while you're engaged in amateur hour, i've got to take the half-time break to praise ole' Genghis Khan, he of the Golden Horde. the number of things he has done right in preparation for tonight's game as well as the quality of his team is pretty impressive:

-- almost ideal GS / minutes management. all his players could go 48 and still get under 80 for the week.

-- very deep squad. even with a reduced squad, GKhan has a $100,000 C coming off the bench.

-- as deep as his squad is -- i am playing a hybrid of first and second stringers, and losing, at home, at halftime -- the Horde is missing Akers, a quite capable PF. his depth up front is unreal.

-- i just noticed tonight his SF is listed as C, but only makes $25,000 -- and gets game ratings in the upper teens at SF. would love to see his skill set.

-- did i mention i am 0 - 13 from 3 pt. land in the first half?

-- only reason i am this close is his team is fouling as much as mine -- i'm sure that anomaly will be corrected this half.

What a good team. And sitting in 5th place. the Great 8 is ridiculous.

at which point I decided that it was time to drink more and comprehend less.

Funny, this is exactly what Hoosier and I do. You sure you aren't from Alaska?

No, though I did tug one out to a Jewel album at a Holiday Inn Express one night.

(Well, not really, but I did at least keep it realistic by not claiming it was Palin.)

I had a lot of luck last season, not so much this season.

i understand what you're saying -- when i won it felt more like it fell into my lap than as a consequence of anything i did.

but you've got a squad that, when i see you're next on the schedule, produces a sinking oh-god-how-am-i-going-to-win feeling. i've been fortunate to get you twice at home -- man, not looking forward to our third meeting. payback time and possibly a place in the playoffs will be at stake.

before that happens, just be sure to beat up on the Chargers, Cacti, and magiker.

The dread you feel is probably from the historical Horde and not my $24K small forward!

By my calculations, the great 8 went 45-19 with a PD of +1232 in interconference play. Yikes.

Not to brag, but I think I account for the majority of that PD. B)

But even discounting my 8 losses, a 37-19 record against the remainder of the Big 8 is very impressive.

Golden Horde would be comfortably in first in the Big 8 but (as of today) in the Great 8 he's currently not even a playoff team.

Whatever forces control the Cup -- CIA? ISIS? the Illuminati? -- have turned on the intrepid heroes of the NBBA.

first TKI goes down (which i did not think was possible).

and in this coming round six of the seven remaining NBBA teams face off against each other.

there is a good chance some miserable, second-rate squad, like Desert Storm, could win the prize.

i think, as a protest, all home teams in next week's round should play only three players. it would be wrong to benefit from such injustice, and they should speak clearly that winning is secondary to fairness.
