Week 8 Power Rankings
How terrible is All-Star Week, eh? So long and boring without that 2nd game! This week's rankings will show a team's current rank along with what their very first week's rank was. Without further ado.

1. Philly Dribble (2)
Looking back at my preseason predictions, boy was I LOUD WRONG about Phil_Wings' team. They've chosen the invisible superstar route to success this season and have been dominating the competition with only two losses on the season with a surprising upset to The Beer Bellys and a grind out fight against Gremlins. They, unfortunately, finally came to their end in their Cup aspirations, losing to the 13th ranked team in the US after winning 7 games in a row, including a 2-point upset of 68th ranked Beware of Dogs (though, looks like Dogs are going to relegate while Philly seems destined to promote, so maybe it was a fair fight). Looking at the rest of their schedule, unless Linndale or Rip City decide to take a go at them for some reason, I think they'll finish out the season 20-2 with an eye on the finals.

2. Linndale (6)
Arguably, one of the biggest surprises in our division this season is Speedtraps' group. They rolled into their promotion ranked 5057 in the world and are currently sitting at 3732. Along with their big world ranking leap, they've moved up in the US rankings starting at 235 and climbing all the way up to 174. They've put on an impressing display of efficiency both offensively and defensively, arguably only losing to teams they should have lost to (although, looking back at their first loss against Lion Rebels, I have to say that appears to have been an aberration). Forecasting the rest of their season, they should only lose one more, though there's potential for upset in some matchups. I think they'll be sitting at 2nd place in the Big 8.

3. The Ashkickers (3)
Admittedly a bit of a surprise with the standings looking the way they have been, but according to highly sophisticated calculations (lots of really difficult maths), Tylormade's crew slates in at #3 so far, though this is quite close between them, Gremlins, and Rip City. Things are proving to hold steady in terms of efficiencies. Aside from a somewhat surprising 3-point loss to San Dominica Warriors on the road, they held their own in interconference play and find themselves facing any easy matchup, followed by an intriguing game against Żubr Białystok. But with a comfortable point differential and a two-game lead in the standings, I doubt they have anything to worry about, even with a loss.

4. Gremlins (1)
Gizmo probably feels like a Dallas Cowboys fan reading this, though in fairness to them, there's probably justified rage boiling under their skin, landing at 4th. They have a higher EFFG rating than The Ashkickers, and a slightly worse OPP EFFG, but what is intriguing is the Top end of the OPP EFFG rankings are very tight, with 5 teams vying for 3rd-7th separated by only 4 points. But this week, this is how the cookie crumbles. This isn't to say that they're not to be feared. I'm pretty confident in saying that it looks like it will by Philly & Gremlins in the final and Gizmo's squad has already proved they can beat them at least once, so it should be a 3-game final, from the looks of it.

5. Rip City Revival (8)
JBogroff's team has been coming on strong, currently riding a seven-game winning streak since falling to The Ashkickers a month ago, including an impressive defeat of Gremlins at home this week behind Nicky Nay Nay's 42 points. They're looking tough enough, I've got them nearly winning out, falling only to Philly, but even that I'm hesitant to state (but there, I said it). They've moved up 5 spots in EFFG compared to the first week of the season and another 3 spots in OPP EFFG, pushing them up to 5th with a good argument to be made for higher.

Week 8 Power Rankings - Part 2
6. Mighty Moose Rockets (4)
Hutch44 has been my enigma this season - I cannot get a read on his team. He's threatened multiple times to sell his best players off (currently doing so again), so it's really up in the air as to what they're going to finish up as. It could be a three-way tie for 4th, or a stumble to 6th (if someone bites on his superstar). They took a nice leap in efficiency this week from the all-star break and saw a nice improvement on their OPP EFFG as well, pushing them up in the rankings. They did face the worst teams in the division, but we'll let that slide and see how the norm adjusts next after their matchups against Seattle, War Birds, then tough games against Philly and Linndale.

7. San Dominica Warriors (11)
Another difficult squad to predict with a pretty well-balanced team where no one player sticks out strongly. They find themselves on a nice little four game winning streak but are running straight into a brick wall on the road against Philly and hosting Linndale. It will be interesting to see how those games play out - if they get an upset win, it could drastically change the end of season standings for 4-6 in the Big 8. Either way, it looks like Coach Stephenson has got a decision to make on how he wants to proceed with his group.

8. Lion Rebels (10)
I've actually got to say, that while my team hasn't done as well as I hoped to start the season, it's been a little more fun writing these up being in the middle of the pack. Currently enjoying a little 5 game winning streak after coming up short against both The Ashkickers and Gremlins...the real test for the rest of the season will be if T. Armstead and his boys can figure out how to handle the likes of San Dom and MMR, with it looking like whoever comes out on top between those three will finish in 4th. I really think it can go a couple of different ways depending on transfer listings, injuries, plain stupidity...

9. The Beer Bellys (5)
Both in my preseason predictions and fairly often during weekly power rankings, we've seen thatguys team rated pretty highly, but I have to say, this ranking feels just about right. They're a decent offensive team! But defensively is where they struggle. While they're on a three-game skid, they've got an opportunity to put-up or shut up. They haven't really lost a game they shouldn't have lost, but even in some of their wins, you can see the allowed efficiency of bad teams creep up.

10. War Birds (9)
Gotta be rough for the Birds being ranked 10th here, but stuck at the bottom of the Big 8, especially considering the team directly below them in these rankings is 3rd in the standings in their conference (spoiler alert). Grimhawkes boys have struggled, cobbling only 4 wins together, mostly against the bottom rung of teams. While their point differential is nearly -100, that's nothing compared to the other side of the conference standings where there are PDs of -213, -519, and -517. With a middle-of-the-pack salary in the division, it's got to be frustrating for them, though their Top 5 salary ranking is in the bottom 4th of the division.

11. Żubr Białystok (14)
whitestok is sitting in a good spot in a weak division with a great core of young high potential capable players that might not be able to push them over the edge next season, but seasons 59-60 will be interesting. Training young players at this division can be difficult to stay afloat, but they're doing it! Intriguing matchup with thatguy's team on Saturday night, followed by the brick wall at the top of the conference. All in all, I doubt there's little doubt at this point they'll fail to make the playoffs. The future looks bright!

Week 8 Power Rankings - Part 3
12. Miami Cleo (12)
After finishing in the playoffs last season with a 12-10 record, packer_22's crew has struggled this season, losing the first four games of the season before winning back-to-backs against the two worst teams, and then struggling some more with the other conference and are now in the midst of a 4-game slump. Is this a revenge game against pintipv after starting off the season losing to them by a forceful 17 points? I think they've got a shot at 4 more wins on the season, but it looks like the playoffs are probably out of sight out of mind.

13. Seattle SuperSonicz (15)
iBeStrugglin seems to have been correct in their crunch time effort early in the season to get their first win (I'm not still bitter, I swear!). While they lost their next two matchups, they pulled off another victory over War Birds, then handled business against Dallas and Weather after two more losses and pulled out another win against pintipv before showing some respectable effort against Gremlins and The Ashkickers. But the rest of their schedule doesn't look favorable compared to efficiency ratings and I don't know that they'll win another game. I predict they'll be tied with War Birds and then point differential will be the primary factor in immediate relegation or a chance to go against either Miami or pintipv in a relegation series, which could both be winnable series for them to remain in DIV III.11.

14. pintipv (7)
After winning three of their first games, pint has gone on to win only one of the next twelve matchups. For the most part they haven't been getting blown out, but the games haven't necessarily been close. I don't know how relegation from DIV III is going to shake out with the bot changes they're trying to make starting next season, but I don't think they've got what it takes to stick around in a relegation series. Maybe I'm wrong (and it's not like I haven't been very wrong every single week about something this season), but it'll take a minor miracle for them to pull this out!

15. Dallas Bomskwad (13)
The Architect already appears to be abandoning the giant cyclops project known as Timotheos Grigoropoulos (I like to think he's a cyclops), listing him this week for a cool $469k (nice). But he's still gotta be sitting on nearly 2 million, biding his time for his next big splurge! With only one win in the books, there might be a chance for one or two more wins, but if Grigoropoulos sells, I don't see it happening, maybe even opening the door for Weather Society to put up a win in the final matchup of the season.

16. Weather Society (16)
Melon Collie just hasn't had the firepower to compete at this level with his closest game being a 12-point loss to thatguy in game 4. I do think he's got a chance to avoid immediate relegation, but it's going to be close and either way, they're just not ready for DIV III quite yet. But I will make a special shout out to Cristiano Masetti who I still think got robbed at the all-star game. He's ranked 94 in PTS, 88 in 3FG made in the US, is #31 in PTS, #30 in FG made, #28 in 3FG made in DIV III, and ranks #2 in PTS, PTS/game, FG made, and #3 in 3FG made (ok, he's also #9 in TO) in our division.

I'll likely slide some more to be honest. Focused more on training minutes the rest of the season than playing to win.

Yeah - I get that; it's really hard to get some decent volume training done at this level without compromising your team's performance.

Week 9 Power Rankings
A couple of upsets this week brings us the updated power rankings for week 9. With only 5 games left in the season, there are a couple of important races. In the Big 8, you've got Linndale and Rip City Revival jockeying for 2nd place, Lion Rebels, Mighty Moose Rockets, and San Dominica Warriors duking it out for 4, 5, and 6th, and War Birds trying to overcome Seattle SuperSonicz for a right to fight for relegation. In the Great 8, The Ashkickers have a shot still for the top seed, while Miami Cleo and pintipv going blow for blow over the 5th seed, and finally, Weather Society still has a chance to make it to a relegation matchup, only trailing Dallas Bomskwad by one game and a very close point differential for 7th place. This week's rankings will show last week's ranking in parenthesis.

1. Philly Dribble (1)
Phils_Wings is maybe kicking themselves for TIEing their matchup with my Lion Rebels - believe you me, I was as equally surprised to check scores Sunday to see my team lose to War Birds as to find out Tuesday evening that Lion Rebels pulled off the win (at home) against Philly. All of the rest of Philly's games look winnable, but an interesting matchup looms with Rip City Revival this week. Very slight dips in both EFFG this week, but both ratings remain #1 in their respective categories to leave Philly at the top spot. Unsurprisingly, Philly leads the league in scoring and is 2nd in allowed scoring.

2. Gremlins (4)
Extremely easy wins for Gremlins against the bottom tier of teams in the Great 8 after a somewhat surprising loss the prior week to Rip City vaults them back up the rankings. I'd have to go through all the rankings (but I'm lazy) to be certain, but I think last week's 4th place ranking was the lowest they've been ranked. But their efficiency ratings are nothing to sleep on! Should be smooth sailing this week and next before the final matchup against The Ashkickers. Gremlins are just .1 PPG off of league leading Philly Dribble for the most PPG and they lead the league in Rebounds per game at 53.8.

3. Linndale (2)
After their big leap last week (from 6th to 2nd), Linndale drops a spot, partially because of the somewhat surprising upset loss to San Dominica on the road on Tuesday. Up 2 heading into the 4th, their defense fell apart and they let San Dom score 33 points in the final period to overcome Linndale's well balanced starting 5. There was a point in the 4th, where Linndale was still up, but SG Kyle Knowles was struggling mightily to score (4-14 FG on the night) and was subbed out for Israeli PG Elran Chazan. At the time, Linndale was leading 70-69, but two and a half minutes later, San Dominica found themselves up by 5, leading 77-72 and they never looked back after that. Speedtrap's team faces a couple of intriguing matchups this week. There is a scenario where they could end up in 1st place, but a lot of dominos would have to fall into place for the upstart team to pull that off.

4. The Ashkickers (3)
Tylormade's crew took care of business this week and face what should be a relatively easy two weeks before the aforementioned face-off with Gremlins for potentially 1st place in Great 8. Improvements in both EFFG and OPP EFFG bring them in at fourth place, and while it might feel dismissive (they're a daunting squad!), this feels about right based on their EFFG ratings, ranking 5th in EFFG and 3rd in OPP EFFG. One sneaky stat that could propel them further in the playoffs is their 2nd ranked 3P% of 41.6.
