Ok, I think I have sent appropriate timed games to the managers who I needed to send adjusted times to (though apparently I sent one that I already had correct). It is currently 1:20am Friday morning here, I've just come back from running a three day camp for the school I work at and I have work tomorrow, but I'm trying to get things in order as specified and to be frank finding things buried in the threads of these forums is frustrating at the best of times, let alone when I'm half asleep.

We are so close to the start of the season, so I want to make sure I do what is required of me to get it to run because of the work everyone has put into it, but if you have another team who is interested in taking part next year please give them my place. We haven't even hit round one yet and I'm hating seeing the little notification pop up that there is chat in the forum that requires my attention.

As I've mentioned before, this is a game and if it feels onerous it has ceased to be a game for me. I don't agree with the level of detail around times - when we play Consolation Cup with the National teams Australia's games are ALWAYS played hours before everyone else and each round is stretched across almost the full 24-hour spread and yet it seems to work just fine. But if the majority of managers want to play it that way, so be it.
If we have too many games scheduled it is because I've tried to schedule them, stuffed up the time and rescheduled the game. In no way would it be to gain an edge - I mean, who would bother to do that? What would that say about your character as a person if you truly tried to run multiple games against another opponent to try and engineer a result to win a fantasy, online basketball match?

To me, running a Home Grown team is just somehting I've been doing for a long time to see if I could.
Once everyone has accepted the updated times I'll update the links and the season can play out then I'm out.

I can understand the vision of Deano25 but once the season will be started, I'm sure we'll be glad that it is meticulously organised so thank you for the hard work you produced Wagner ! Furthermore, maybe the "standards" you are creating for the league can be a part of the fun we'll have playing in it. It makes it more official.

I'm very glad to hear some managers share my views on positive sides of creating and retaining some standards to HGL - I completely share that view with you, and I also totally agree that it can add to the fun aspect of it, as for me also it makes HGL feel more like "the real thing". Often times in life, the more you put into something, the more you can get in return.

As some might have already noticed, I have finalized a rule/penalties set for Season 1 of HGL, which consists of 4 posts; this one (326589.7) and 3 following posts (all titled "Additional rules and penalties for violations").

Please don't be intimidated by the word count, it is mainly due to conversatory nature of my writing style and actually introduces only few penalty levels. Also, as you can see, post 3/4 will not apply hardly any (or any) of us during Season 1, but it might be very useful information especially for new managers with small rosters considering joining HGL in the future.

I have also updated Top8 salaries and teams receiving salary benefit-information to this post: (326589.4). Thanks again MrJ for providing us that top8 salary data!

@all HGL participating managers - countdown is at 2 days currently! I hope we can get everything finalized before that, that's mentioned in this post: (326589.68).

I've just made my first lineup for the HGL (weird name...), and my opponent's 2 best players have the same salary as my entire team (glups).

Like in Game of Throne, I would say "Hodor", but I'm not sure it will be enough to win...

That's a good point! I was actually thinking that in addition to Top8 salaries (that MrJ already counted for us) it would be interesting to add as a comparison Top2 or Top3 salaries, as it would show us how sharp of an edge team has (in a form of best players) and would allow dramatic and interesting comparisons to be made easily.
Let's see if I have time to do that later, or calculate average age for Top 8 players/team, which would also be interesting data!

Well, at least this earned you (and BigChill) a HGL Special good spirit prize, as can be read from Announcements-post ;D

We could create an award for the best team regarding to its payroll.
(entire payroll or top8, I don't know).

Examples : you are total payroll #3, and you end with a league ranking #6 -> you won't win the award !
you are a total payroll #14, and you end at 7th rank -> you could win the award.

Sometimes having very high salary top-2 isn’t that much of an advantage. In my case I primarily train players for our National team, so often have a kind of unbalanced team despite having a very high salary team
Overall (National team big players tend to have HUGE salaries).
From what I’ve seen teams with their number 6-8 players not that far below their 1-5 tend to compete very well at league level and you can’t do that if your number 1 guy is $250k.

Hello all HGL managers,
First Round of Season 1 of HGL has just started less than 20 minutes ago!
Per Bernhardsson from Suuret Muinaiset scored the first ever point in HGL, and Ilmari Haavisto, also playing for Suuret Muinaiset, first ever field goal! Having said that, this is the only match for Round 1 that started 1 hour early, so in order to be fair for all that might not be accepted as an official "record", but it's still in the history books of HGL now.
After the whole round is finished, maybe we can see who will also score quickest free throw point and a field goal in Round 1 matches... :)
*EDIT* After reviewing all matches, it appears that 38 year old Šimon Zážický from Svätý Jur Snakers made the quickest field goal (and point as well) on the Round 1 matches, scoring only after 6 seconds. One of Madrid Chotis players wasn't too far away, as it took one second more from him to score against Lielupes Melnas Sirdis. So theoretically, if and as we want to be totally fair, he was the all time first scorer in HGL, while at the same time it can be said that earlier mentioned Per Bernhardsson from Suuret Muinaiset still technically did it first. :)

I'm sure most (if not all) of you guys already know this, but I'll share it here anyway: now that we all have official match numbers available for the duration of whole regular season (in these two posts, here: (326590.5), and here: (326590.6)), you can easily view any HGL match live if you so wish once it has started.

You just need to write/copy-paste this to your browser's address line, and replace that XXXXXXXXX below with the correct match number, and you should be able to view any match once it has started:
