I like all the choices mentioned, certainly all the micro nations would get a boost of fresh blood and revive their sagging national teams. Personally I would go for South Africa with only 8 active users.

Excellent idea. Even at a small sample size, let's try to see where would people play. I won't buy supporter soon, but hypothetically:

1. USA - Big nation, I want to start from lower leagues. Then language, global culture. I would feel like at home, maybe even contribute to NT
2. Serbia - Same language, same culture. Would feel 100% at home.

Other countries where I would consider joining: Croatia, Bosnia, because of language and culture.

Other than that, I wouldn't bother joining. I don't think I would have any motivation to play in unfamiliar communities...

Right now, I'd probably lean toward France/Italy/Spain because the game times are convenient and different enough from the USA times that it'd be pleasant. France probably would be ideal because I can read and write French fairly well, but I mostly just want to be able to go through the lower level experience again and see how well I could do it knowing what I know now. But I might change my mind several times between now and whenever this is announced - but I just don't see any motivation to compete in micronations personally because I don't care about flag chasing and don't want an easy path to the top.

I would most likely choose a bigger nation as well to promote through the ranks and do things differently. Maybe even choose a country like Canada because time is very similar and speak English, except for when they use eh, haha.

I also might choose a smaller nation and build a team just with drafted players. It would be nice because I could do that while still staying somewhat competitive in league play as well as make good money. Might choose a country like Luxembourg because I was their NT manager about 4 seasons ago.

I'd either go for Iceland, because they eat hakarl there, or Ireland, because my wife's parents are both from there.

Happily, both countries have cool flags, which is really my highest criterion.
