l'arancione nn promette bene!
There have been several different problems going on in the past few weeks. Some of them are related to bringing new team members aboard and teaching them how a complicated system works. Some of them actually came from somebody we brought aboard who turned out to just not be capable of being a productive part of our team, and who is no longer working for us. One problem was actually a hardware/cable problem that took down the whole colo our servers are sitting in, and we had no control over. These particular training problems, actually, appear to have been caused by one of the "old" developers, not the "new" ones. But ultimately, it's a very complicated system and large codebase compared to what it actually does - that's one of the flaws in the back end that I designed, and I'd do it differently if I were starting from scratch. We're doing the best we can at trying to both teach how the system works and simultaneously maintain it, and it's a tough thing to do. Ultimately, it's what we have to do. We now have a full-time team (well, 2/3 of a team - see above), and that team is going to be able to run the game. The only question is how to make the transition minimally painful, and I think it's clear that I'm not doing such as good job with it. I'm going to keep looking for a good way to do this, and obviously I want 100% uptime, while recognizing that mistakes will happen.Ultimately, the reason I do care so much because as much you all complain when things go wrong, it's also both enjoyable and rewarding to be able to provide BuzzerBeater to all of you. I hope you guys will give our new team support as they learn the system, and help them to understand why this is a great community and why it's so much fun to run this game.
