Frankly, these forums aren't very inviting. A more open and clean forum would be conducive to increased activity and who knows where that would lead.

The new system is clearly better than the old system, but it doesn't really make a difference as it doesn't matter. I'm with some of the other guys who think a different forum software would be better. The only downside is that if you use a different forum software you might not be able to incorporate the country and division a team is in. Other than that, new forums would allow for a much easier feel.
I think a better system than this one that I've seen on some forums is the "reputation" system. People can either like or dislike your post. The affected user can see who did what and for which posts of his. Then, based on the user's reputation that repped the other guy, the other guy's reputation is affected.

In other words, A has a 6 reputation. A likes B's post. B's reputation goes up to 2. However if A only has 1 reputation, B's reputation only goes up a fraction.

It's a good system imo, but again, Balls/Reputation/Karma/Post Count is all useless. Honestly, when I want to know if I should trust one's advice I just look at what division they're in and how much I've agreed with them in the past as the BB community on the forums is quite small.

I just realized that with the new system I will never reach my goal of descending to 3 balls or lower. It is a real tragedy.

May I ask why we need thous balls in the first place? I never seen any use for this and I did not give a damn if I got 5 ball or 1 ball. :s Just wondering...

But seriously, I don't see the necessity in any rating scheme. Every scheme is flawed.

I would enjoy a rating/referring system that helps me to find useful posts, though. As a GM I have to bear a lot of noise to remove some of it (i.e., moderate the forums), but as a regular user I would like to skip most of that and concentrate on the good discussions. The search functionality can be improved of course, but I'm sure the rating system could also be further developed to achieve this goal. In its current form, it doesn't work at all. You just see that some people have many votes and some have none. As much as some don't like it, there needs to be some sort of negative voting implemented so that you can filter stuff. Now the negative votes could even be completely invisible to other users. I would think that posts that generate many positive votes and pretty much zero negative votes are generally valuable (or in many cases merely good jokes). Posts that generate both are not necessarily any more useful than ones that get no votes.

There are no bookmarks for forum posts and bookmarks are a Supporter feature at the moment anyway. That sort of system would be pretty useful for referring to god threads and posts. Whenever there are many bookmarks to a post overall or many bookmarks to a recent post, they are probably something worth reading. Combine a feature like that to the post rating scheme and it's suddenly useful.
