There is the entire problem. KW is yet another team that thinks they accomplished something meaningful by knocking me out (forget that there is another cup game on Thursday, and that their chance of being in the cup two weeks from now are basically zero...). I really, really, have no patience for this kind of thinking.

Yeah I agree. It's really shortsighted & pointless to CT at this point of the cup. 99% of the time at least.
In a similar vein I think it was WW who wrote something last season about hating how lower division teams can get away with CTing far too easily. (due to lack of penalty/deterrent i think?).

Though there's probably a certain cachet that comes with beating your team in particular... all things being equal, teams might be even more inclined to go all-out vs. you compared with others. (like bad NBA teams giving extra effort vs. the Miami Heat least season, or your soccer scrimmage explanation a while ago).

Anyway, weird that all 4 NBBA teams who had a CT vs TIE were in the Great 8: you, myself, Walker Wiggles, & Bruins. Saw mine coming a mile away though. Truly pointless by the other team. I mean they lost by 40 & had a 0% chance of winning. Even vs. the worst scrub lineup i'd potentially use. All it did was screw up my minutes. (early foul outs due to the insane rebounding boost). So unless that was their goal...

I disagree slightly here. I think there is a point in CTing, a lot more than 1% of the time.

E.g the team that beat LMA, i've not run any numbers but there's still a half decent chance they get a worse team in the next round, 50% chance of that being at home. Also, there's a chance the other team had to at least normal to get to this stage too. Assuming they started with a half-decent eth level, they could justifiably TIE the next few games and repeat the CT against another NBBA team next week.

Plus they get 50k, which is better than a kick in the teeth.

I still agree that most of the time it's futile, but in these situations, i think it's worth a try (depending upon league standings).

I bet he's pissed he didnt try harder than you now!

Nope I am exremely proud of my team for how they hung in there! Even if we won most likely would have lost Thursday or the week after. I have a tough road game Saturday and will have to normal if he doesn't agree to an Mtie; couldnt Afford to Normal 2 games in a row.

Great game Winninguy, that was fun! Good luck the rest of the way!

I guess I am part of that 1%.....I recognize that to stay up a couple of weeks ago was going to be tough to stay up so I needed to win and extra game or two here or there, it started with me normaling against KDB, I lost and things have not worked out so I decided to sell my big guys and bank some cash and continue trainings (which is what really sucks about Salpigkids being out for 4 weeks). So I figure against the Contortionsist I would CT as it was probably my last chance to win a game this season and although maybe I will get a lucky draw on thursday...still have not seen it yet. But as I said before, winning brings in an extra $50K which I can probalby through away in Drafting (LOL). Good luck to you all who are left ....and if you are fortunate enough to draw me well you know what to expect....

yeah ok, my mistake. forgot exactly what that older discussion was about.

As for the cachet thing, it may be true, but there is a kind of lack of perspective in thinking you're getting bragging rights by beating a team that would beat you if their lineup choices weren't constrained by the long-view...

it's not bragging rights exactly... but c'mon you know a lot of people would find it pretty cool to say they knocked the #1 (#8 world!) team out of the cup. under any circumstances. (maybe cool isn't the right word, but hopefully you get what i mean.) Of course they don't think they're better than you. It's more along the lines of being a spoiler.

Think of it like this:
It's *not* bragging rights *over* you, rather it's a sort of bragging rights in simply *being* the ones to have beaten & eliminated you.

To be honest, I didn't really look into whoever LMA got beat by.

Ok maybe 99% was extreme. There are a few cases where it makes sense. Just mean that under normal circumstances it doesn't seem to be a good idea to CT at this late in the cup. (Even assuming a win, which is hardly a given & dependent on the other team not taking them very serious). Plus think of the league consequences, financial consequences (losing streak), etc.
(Or maybe I'm wrong, idk.)

btw, UK might be at like 3 enthusiasm by Saturday! (at 5 or lower for Thurs. cup game. Forced to CT again?)

Now you going all out at the cup is actually a smart move! So you're part of the privileged 1% haha.
Of course were you in the Big 8 it never would have come to this. This season was a perfect storm (in a bad way...)
