The current solution is that you can choose to submit an incomplete set of orders, and if you do not have enough players, you forfeit.


That's where the problem is. You shouldn't allow someone to submit incomplete orders.
In HT, if an incomplete lineup is submitted, they pull in subs to fill out the lineup. I don't see why that can't be done here as well. In those instances where you have an imbecile who sells all his players (or dumps them) then you have a forfeit, assign minutes played for training purposes to the one team and move on.

I just think it's silly to "allow" teams to set illegal lineups. As dumb as the world has become, we have to make things idiot proof. It's a shame, I know, and the world is worse off for it, but nonetheless, for functional reasons, I think it looks better for the long-term future if teams can't set illegal lineups.......

Like HT, if the players aren't even nominated to be in the game, they will not be pulled.

Like HT, if the players aren't even nominated to be in the game, they will not be pulled.


Maybe that could be tweaked to pull in players even if they aren't nominated for that game.....

If a guy submits a depth chart (I should stop using lineup) with 6 guys and has another 4 or 5 on the "not playing" side of the ledger, maybe those guys get pulled in by default. I don't know if that's possible or not.

If a javascript form checker is implemented in the Game Setup page to indicate to a user that they have spaces in their depth chart and it could cause problems may help this problem.

Also having a "Set Orders" turn to red if there is a space in the depth chart.
i.e. a player that was in the depth chart was sold since it was set originally.

Seeing the arguments against changing things already in this topic I would like to say, it would be nicer if the user was at least warned within the same page. It doesn't have to stop the user from entering an incomplete depth chart, just adds a warning.

I agree for players like you and I, but will you or someone active ever submit less than a 10 player depth chart?
I can't see why? A whistle happy ref and then you forfeit?

I am pretty sure you can avoid forfeiting with 5 players because it was the less than 5 player bug that caused the BBs to introduce forfeiting.

If someone puts 5 starters on the field and repeats their names through the depth chart (maybe doesnt even require the repeating) then, from my understanding, they do not forfeit and should get full minutes.
If an injury occurs in this case then a Lucky Fan will appear and play for the injured player.

if there are 5 players on the roster this is correct. if there are more players on the roster, but not in the DC then after someone is injured or fouls out they will get pulled. It is even conceivable that in SFDC and the starter set was USELESS and got REALLY TIRED and became 1000 times less effective than a bench player who wasn't in the depth chart, then the bench player could come in. It literally is 1000 times less effective... i could make it 1,000,000 times less effective if i wanted.... making it never is problematic though, from a programming logic point of view. cause its not never.. its never unless something dramatically bad happens, but only for this position... and plus watch out if there is actually another guy available at that position but he happens to be playing somewhere else right now.. now he can't go anywhere else.. etc.etc...

I set a lineup the other day with 7 players, because I didn't want to risk injury/too many minutes to my starters. There are plenty of reasons to do so.

There's really no problem I see with the current system.

If you only want to choose 7 players to play in a scrimmage, I don't have a problem with that. However, having forfeits isn't realistic and I just think there should be a way to eliminate them.....

What isn't realistic about them? If a team doesn't show up to play, they forfeit. In this game, not setting a lineup is the same as not showing up to play.

What do you propose? You suggest making it impossible for people to set a lineup with less than a certain number of players. What is that number? What happens, like BB-Charles suggested, if someone sells too many of their players and has a game before buying more? In your suggestion, they would forfeit because they wouldn't be able to set a lineup.

I don't think the BBs should make it easier on managers by making it impossible for them to set a lineup that would have them forfeit. If a manager doesn't bother to log in, they don't deserve to win.
