alright then i will give it a shot and get some players

i've been giving this a lot of thought -- i think it would be a terrible mistake to have had a chance to pile up a huge amount of cash but instead to have rushed into buying whatever was available on the TL thereby radically escalating your team's costs and eliminating all that profit and still losing the relegation series and dropping down with a collection of players whose ages rival the Chinese Politburo and will have no value on the TL and there you are broke and no prospects having frizzled away to be in the same position with $5 or $6 million or more -- i would hate to see that happen

Great post but you lost me when you started talking about trainers. Less than level 4??? Blasphemy!

exactly
so i opted to get a few all star potential young guns and gonna do some basic 1v1 training for this season
and hopefully make them great backups and cup players
i can buy back 2 starters with the money i make/save this season
i guess i had only 1 real competitor omw here which was the clogs
i hope he makes it next season so i wont have to face him again in Div II

I've personally always had level 5 trainers. I switched over to 4's a few seasons back and it makes me feel like a bum. The extra 2-3 pops a season are worth it to me.

The economics of the game have switched around a few times. A couple of times I have been on the front of it, and a couple on the back. I managed to promote to the NBBA twice, and had a couple others I should have...and probably could easily have if I'd spent at the right times. I do think that when KDB demoted, he did it at just the right time. It was still easy enough to dominate lower levels, train, and make money at the same time. After that, it became much more difficult to do all three simultaneously. The times I could have promoted, had I, I would have had the money to challenge for the NBBA title in my first season. The problem was, I couldn't save that kind of money, already have a few of the players I would need, and have the resources I would need to do that. On the other hand, if the goal was simply promotion, it probably would have come easily. Then, I did make just promotion a goal, spent a pile of money, and proceeded to mess up my chance. One issue was that there were enough people trying the same thing, that if two people got into a promotion battle, it got very costly and risky. It usually would take a team that'd be midtable NBBA to win a II league. It then became much more likely that you'd spend quite a few seasons down. If that goes on for a couple seasons, you'll get stuck in the economics of the lower league. The long and short of that is, if a team has the ability to stay up, they should. Otherwise, it turns into a real longball game that can be boring.

That's my plan after I demote down from D.II, but if my Utopia team is any indication, then I'm going to have a rough time.

Way back when KDB was making his comeback trip to the NBBA, he did what you mention when he was in D.III. But when he Promoted to II.4, he immediately increased his payroll to over 600k. He also had a Level 6 (or 7, I forget which) trainer for his USA NT tandem of Nemesio and Goddard. Got lucky with a few draws and made the Finals of the Cup for some extra cash. But I want to say that he was losing 100k a week?

1st time here I can't resist the 400k net income u guys get here
Is it better just to tank it and get a top pick and come back with better roster and finances?
It burns about 1 mil in div II to get here but it's a washout with the promotion bonus
I don't see myself competing against a 900k roster anytime soon

Given how difficult it is to get up to the NBBA in the first place, there's no reason to do anything but give it your best shot, otherwise why bother promoting at all? If you reach a point where you're pretty much guaranteed to relegate, then maybe you break up the band at that point.

I can safely say that when it comes time for me to retool, that's probably how I'll start again, except I'll probably start off with a lot of two position pressure again. I mean, barely-capped star potential guys with good OD and other skills reasonable but not great were good enough to carry me in IV, be key players in III and do well in the Cup and as backups in II, and at least keep me reasonably competitive against guys like Hassan, who I've probably played in PLs and the Cup even more than I've played you the past few seasons (if only because I couldn't force a game 3). If you can have a lineup that can play defense, not turn the ball over, stay competitive on the boards, hit free throws and have enough depth that there are no really weak spots, you can be exceptionally successful even without outstanding players. Naturally, when you supplement that with outstanding players, it's even better, and that's probably been my Achilles heel here. ;)

And yeah, hopefully I'll make it. It's pretty scary that the only competitive games I've lost since September are two Cup losses to HD, two playoff losses to you, two losses against In Your Face (who of course came up and kicked ass) and one game I semi-tossed vs. Milwaukee leading into my first Cup game with HD. I think it's about time for me to finally get the long-overdue series of buttkickings my team has dodged so far pretty much my entire career here.

holy smokes. DeSouza went off for 41 pts. against a very good guard on a very good team last night. wow. i have to say Tucumcari is playing like a 2-peat.

i also glanced to see how the USA was being represented in the B3. ozone had an extraordinarily difficult schedule thrown his way, with every single team at or below his national ranking. on the other hand, Delta 9 is living right -- i could see him winning all his games, and moving on to the knockout round.

and i have to take my team back to the schoolroom for some clarification about what a "motion" offense is. judging from last night, where my guys only had 11 assists, i think they believe the "motion" is using the player with the ball to use his hand to tell the other players to clear out and let him go one-on-one.
