We werent discussing if both were of value, we were discussing if one strategy had more value than the other.

If only one strategy, I'd say trainees absolutely. It may be more efficient or less efficient than building up your arena, but without doubt it is way more exciting. And if anything, you want to keep the new player's enthusiasm for the game as high as possible.

There is no wrong answer, and I worded the question inncorrectly, Im learning.

The title should of been "Of these two choices, etc., etc."

Of course training is important.

if you could go back and tell your pre-buzzerbeater self the BEST possible way to spend your time for the first THREE seasons, what would you say?

As you know you and I have already had a little exchange on this issue on the Off-Site Forum....But I like how you posed the question here so I wanted to chime in.....I have often told people if I had to over, I would get my arena completed earlier and it make it more of a priority than I did....That said, I would never not have training as a priority with my team...Even now in the NBBA I still train players.

If I could go back, what i would sacrifice is, winning. I was so determined to win right from the beginning, and found myself in a very, very tough DiV league at that time, that although I kept my training program going at all times, and I continued to build my arena, I spent too much money on quality players to always stay in contention and keep promoting.

If I could go back, I would not worry about promoting for 3-5 season and would put everything I have into training and my arena; that way when I began to promote by choice I would always maximize the promotion bonus because my Arena would would be maxed and then as I promoted and needed more expensive players i could freely spend on those players without regard or worry that I am spending money that could be going towards my infrastructure (arena).

But again, the trainees cannot be emphasized enough...They are extremely important, and if new teams do not have a crop of trainees, they are definitely leaving something on the table...and missing out on one of the most fun parts of this game..Nothing like waking up on Friday morning to little green arrows :-)

Well it is true that both training youngsters and expanding your arena are good ways to start, but I think that it is much better to expand your arena at first(which pool clearly shows, it is 11-24 atm for arena expanding) especially with this new changes about overextension tax... Trainers are now much more expensive(and if you are not following that market, prices are going crazy atm:D), buying good trainee is not cheap either, you have to put a lot of hard work into his training, and in the end if you try to sell him, you probably wont get any profit, maybe even lose some money with him... Only way to actually earn some money is not to sell him, but to continue to train him, and get overextension for him, but salary for fully trained 22-23 year old is probably too much for low league club, which didnt expand his arena, is too big, and you will be forced to sell him...

To conclude, I believe that much better way to start is to expand your arena, and I am pretty much a newbie here, so I know all the problems newbies has to face:)

both it does go hand in hand very easily if you don't buy potential 8+ trainees.

just be patient a don't buy any player other than 2-3 cheap trainees. then loose one season, built your arena, draft a kickass HoF potential player and start to buy 1-2 players but don't spent to much over the minimum wage and learn to manage gameshape and motivation and win away games against bots.

For money that you need to spend to draft kickass HOF, you can easily buy 2 superstar trainees, and than we have same problems as I mentioned before... And of course it is best if you combine training with arena expansion, but the question was what is better: only to expand arena, or only to train youngsters, and I will have to say, it is expanding arena without any doubt :)

yes if you don't have enough money it is more important to build your arena. but still you can just buy 3 potential 7-8 18yo trainees for less than 30k each and train them along the way.

if the question would be what to do with your starting money i would say buy 3 decent trainees. and start to build afterwards. but this advice is only valid in countries where you start in league 3, 4 or 5. because the difficult part is not really to promote but to stay in league 3 and be competitive after your third season. and this is much easier if you have 3 players which you trained on your own. 3 players which are very good built, have good secondaries and fit your system perfectly, while also are good for fan revenue and always earn less than they are actually worth (while youl train thema at least).

in a micronation i would probably just built my arena and don't spent any other money for the first 16 weeks.

if you have to choose between building your arena OR train in the first 3 seasons. the answer would be ONLY arena, but it would not be a good advice to follow..

/edit: my advice above would still be valid if you don't draft a kickass HoF player. this just makes it easier because you can sell him at some point for a lot of money. if you want to train him it doesn't really matter if he is superstar or HoF. at least not until you are in a very high league. i would still recommend to invest some money in the draft while you are at the bottom of your league..especially in league 4 or 5
