I suspect the guy went bot because he was bankrupt. It looks like some of his guys were sold as Free Agents. That's usually done as a last ditch effort to eliminate the deficit. If that doesn't work, the manager gets kicked and the team goes bot.
I don't really have a problem with it other than it should happen at the end of the season. It won't affect me, but it can have an effect on the standings. If someone played him at full strength and beat him by 10, while another team played him as a bot and won by 50, it could have an effect on the final standings (since point differential is a factor).
It probably won't matter in this case, but I have seen it skew point differentials before.
