Fantastic, this is the 2nd season in a row my best player's been hurt in the 1st round of the playoffs. I hate injuries so much. So so much.

I still don't understand why they're in this game.

what is the benefit to winning the NBBA championship? or, even better, for losing the finals? not having to pay a team salary for a week is quite a reward compared to splitting the gate for a (possible) game three the following week. i understand there is an attendance bonus for winning, and that could add up, but i doubt that it lasts the season, or is equal to the cash-in-hand of tanking the conference finals. and i don't know of any bonus for finishing second. for the life of me, i can't see the economic reason to try to win.

aside from pride and bragging rights, can anyone set me straight?

Game three is on a Sunday for the finals. You could split gate receipts for three finals games. You get the silver trophy on the home page. Seems worth trying to me.

Do not underestimate the attendance bonus, it's massive. Best financial strategy in the NBBA is to win it all, then tank while still selling out your arena.

hahaha I was playing with my econ worksheet last night and that same thought came up multiple times. Yes, it's a huge saving losing the conf final, especially if you're carrying a high salary roster. But the revenues from the finals games offset a big chunk of that + attendance boost + B3 revenues (might not matter if you win the CUP) + the benefits of pick and choose which game to throw without negative effect to attendance. In the end, I think the benefit is not as big as the number you see Monday morning. I expect to see your best lineup Sat!

I dont know if it just offsets a big chunk of it. Every arena pulls over 500k per game. So if you go 3 games and split the 500k, you pull in 750k in attendance for the week. None of us pull 750k in a week (unless you have two home games that week then its more). I think it is at least a couple hundred k to the positive if you make the finals and extend to three games. You may need a wink wink deal with AZ to throw game two to extend, but who cares, two hundred K is two hundred K, and your name is in the finals season 28 schedule page of NBBA forever. My two cents from a demoting team

In this case, we're not comparing to a regular home game revenue but instead to the team salary that we don't have to pay. Both Hassan and I are carrying over $750k roster so best case scenario (3 games Finals) would be about break-even for me and a loss for Hassan.

IMHO, the chance of winning the Finals and like you said, getting your name on the USA page forever is worth far more than a few hundreds K you save from tanking.

However, 500k sales from home games is really light for a playoff game. My relegation game pulled 535k and would have been significantly higher if my arena prices weren't set to maximize sixth place regular season home crowds. I see what you guys are saying but a Lathrop type season could strike anyone next season. Who knows if you will ever have another chance.

and you could add AZ to that list -- he should have had back-to-back championships.

you'll see my best, but it ain't going to be good enough.

i forgot the B3, but that is only $20,000 a win against the best teams in the world, a moderately challenging task. (by the way, congratulations to you and AZ for great runs in the B3.) but even a successful run there is only worth about two national Cup wins.

i'd feel a little better if Dmitri had chimed in with "yeah, there is a great bonus for coming in second", but both Buzzer Manager and his silence suggests that is not the case. (his squad and mine both had similar attendance figures.)

so i will speak bravely and say i'm a gonna whup TnT's tail tonight AND on Saturday -- but i expect my team to read these boards carefully and see what is best for the Register-Guard financially and play accordingly.

Agree 100%. That is why I'm not tanking and neither should Hassan.
