Jason, thanks for the shout out for the Riverdogs, but you know, maybe that final game simply showed that I'm not a very good manager. If I hadn't had the injured Ya'akobovitch backing up two players, then we probably would have won. I kind of vacillate about these BB injuries. Many of the long-time managers, like Brian, for example, remember when BB cut the injury time in half! Many of us who also play Hattrick like the way HT handles injuries. A player might need to come out of a game, but be able to play before his "scheduled" time off. He might not be able to go at full strength—he's termed "bruised"—but he can still play. And to my knowledge, a player is rarely (never?) out more than what his profile says. As Jason has pointed out, that 2-week injury in BB can actually be nearly 3 weeks. Ugh!

The injury system needs to be changed. There needs to be some fail safes put into place at the absolute minimum. This pic is a game that happened to me back in D3.

The difference between injuries in BB and injuries in real life, is that in real life you don't just cut a player because he's hurt. In football you can have a clause in your contract to drop someones salary (by half at most) if they're put on IR. Teams do this for flexibility with the salary cap. I had a 200k a week player this season get a 4 week injury. If he had not sold, I would have cut him. That would have been 800k down the drain with zero production (possibly a million if his injury stretched past the financial update). I couldn't afford to keep him around and lose games.

The game after he got hurt, another player got a 2 week injury. We need some fail safes. Perhaps there should be a limit to how many injuries a team can get, or a salary threshold, if 15% of the teams total payroll is hurt then nobody can get hurt until he's back.

I don't need to convince anyone of anything but I thought you overreacted last year and if you make snide comments, I'll call you out.

PS: You spent a lot more money than I did to be little more than an afterthought yourself. We'll see how it goes next season when I fill out my roster.

The cup. You got free league wins while the better teams kept advancing.

Let's not forget that it's unlikely Harper even makes the finals that season if I hadn't lost Billingsley to injury in the semis. But regardless of that, the only way either of us had a chance to beat you was that injury in game 3.

That's not really why I'm replying. It's your point about injuries already being reduced by half a long time ago. I can recall an NBBA season when Wake Forest had nearly his entire team go down for ridiculous lengths, (I don't remember the specifics, but there were a couple of +6 in there) forcing him to do a full reboot.

And since you brought up HT, I'm assuming by your summation of injuries over there that you've never had a really old player get injured. A lot of guys over 38 never heal and gradually worsen and stay at +8 forever (assuming you don't use the "cheat" and make them into trainers)... ;)

I just remember WFU as the injured team. IIRC, the current, not entirely popular, staff system was the outcome of some group he was part of to deal with addressing injuries.

*pours one out for the cursed WFU teams*

Your right, both of us were going to be hard pressed to overcome Pappy's team without a little bit of luck (in this case it took the form of injuries). But as far as our SF game, I lost my starting C to injury a couple game minutes before Billingsley went down and I was up by 3 at the time Billingsley was hurt so it isn't like the Billingsley injury totally decided the game, or that injuries don't happen to everyone. I think everyone at times has benefited from injuries and everyone at times has been penalized by them, as I can definitely think of important games that I lost while sustaining an early injury to a key player. So while at a micro level injuries can seem unfair, I would say at the macro level they seem much more fair.

I think a big problem with injuries that no one has addressed so far is that it feels as if the occurrence of injuries increase in playoff games. I don't have any statistics that back that up as I am too lazy to look at games and figure out the percent of injuries but anecdotally it seems true. And if we are all about making the game "realistic", a player would be more likely to play through an injury in the playoffs rather than a regular season game, so by that logic I would think the chance of a player missing the remainder of a game in the playoffs due to an injury should actually be less than in the regular season.

It would make sense. Think of all the accumulated wear & tear from that grueling 22 game yearly schedule! It's not like players have been taking it easy all season... oh wait...

wait... explain this cheat please.

i've got a guy whose injury length kept increasing & is currently at +9! He's been injured since 2009, but already *was* a trainer. What now? Will he forever remain a cripple? His face forever hidden by bandages? I imagine him as feeling something like this guy from this 80s video:

Yeah, WFU had a federation for fixing the staff system (which was pretty stupid), and I believe he was just as disappointed in the change as most everyone else, though I think we can all agree that the current system is a massive improvement over the old system.
