I set a lineup the other day with 7 players, because I didn't want to risk injury/too many minutes to my starters. There are plenty of reasons to do so.

There's really no problem I see with the current system.

Really?
If you only want to choose 7 players to play in a scrimmage, I don't have a problem with that. However, having forfeits isn't realistic and I just think there should be a way to eliminate them.....

What isn't realistic about them? If a team doesn't show up to play, they forfeit. In this game, not setting a lineup is the same as not showing up to play.

What do you propose? You suggest making it impossible for people to set a lineup with less than a certain number of players. What is that number? What happens, like BB-Charles suggested, if someone sells too many of their players and has a game before buying more? In your suggestion, they would forfeit because they wouldn't be able to set a lineup.

I don't think the BBs should make it easier on managers by making it impossible for them to set a lineup that would have them forfeit. If a manager doesn't bother to log in, they don't deserve to win.

I don't view this as your local YMCA league where the "coach" has to make sure he has 5 guys show up to the gym by 7:00 p.m. so they don't forfeit....
If I'm charging people to watch my team play games and paying my players as their "job", shouldn't I be expected to field a legitimate team???

How do I tell my fans who paid money to see my team play that the "league" isn't set up to allow them to see an opponent every time they come to my arena? It's realistic to expect a playoff team to forfeit?? People paying big money to see a playoff game, and one of the teams doesn't show? Really?

I would imagine the number of times a professional team has had to forfeit could be counted on my digits........
that's why I think forfeits are unrealistic....

Hi me again....talking about illegal lineups.

Well, ok, it's not specific the lineups, but a by-product of the forfeit stat lines: I didn't realize this until I was looking at one of my players and noticed his turnover avg and his fouls avg.
Here is his history:
Game MIN FG 3FG FT OR TR AST TO STL BLK PF PTS Rating Game Type
563455 40 2-5 0-0 0-0 2 12 1 46 6 0 35 4 2.5
563463 1 0-0 0-0 0-0 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 0
778365 24 2-5 0-2 2-3 3 6 3 1 1 0 2 6 4.5 Scrimmage
779104 45 5-11 0-2 1-2 0 3 7 0 2 1 2 11 4.5 Scrimmage
779393 46 10-15 2-2 3-9 0 6 6 1 1 0 2 25 6.0 Scrimmage
563502 16 5-15 0-4 0-0 0 1 0 1 1 0 2 10 6.0
792329 42 5-13 2-6 8-8 2 6 3 1 2 0 2 20 7.0 Scrimmage
798182 21 3-9 0-1 0-0 1 5 3 0 0 0 3 6 5.5 Scrimmage
56.7 7-20 0-4 0-0 2 15 1 47 7 0 37 14 3.5 TOTALS
19 0.35 0 0 0.7 5.0 0.3 15.7 2.3 0.0 12.3 4.7 3.5 SEASON AVG

the bold is the forfeit game line and his avg. turnovers and ag fouls.

Now, for me, I can see what happened. But let's say I try to sell him. Will a potential buyer look at his avg's. and say, whoa this guy turns the ball over way too much, I'm not buying him?
So, if the forfeits are still going to be allowed to occur and subsequently these stat lines will continue to be a part of the game, then could we at least pull them from the game history on each player, or not include them in the averages?

I see your point, but that's a pretty lame excuse. This makes it seem like the player stat pages are meaningless, which I don't think you or the BBs really think - if so, why are they there at all?

I've said my part about snuzer's issue with the forfeits, but I think he has a point here. The issue goes beyond buying and selling players - what happens down the line when good players don't get chosen for the all-star game, etc. because of screwy games messing up their stats? Right now the ASG doesn't count for anything, but I imagine the BBs still want people to strive to get their players on the team.

I wasn't aware that these games stats other than minutes played were actually getting stored... i thought that in the forfeit fix we also erased those stats. Is the game you are talking about a forfeited one? or one before we fixed that? I agree that we should probably find a way to make the stats go away. which is hard because we store minutes in the same structure that we store points etc... so if we make the stats zeros its gonna bring his average down too. I guess maybe we need to add an extra flag to mark games that were forfeited and not average over those for calculating stats.

Oh lord, I'm in trouble, nickfox actually agreed with me on a point!!!! ;)

What have I done!!!!

I do know the individual statlines need to be taken in the context of the game, but do I think someone searching the transfer list will go that far to research a player? Maybe, maybe not, but nonetheless, if an alternative to dealing with these erroneous stat lines can be found, I'm all for it!!!!

But, if we fix the illegal lineup issue, then these erroneous stat lines would disappear!!!! My logic is impeccable!!! :)

I'd really like to see this happen, just because I actually enjoy looking at statistics. I can't help myself :-( The more realistic they are the better my immersion in the game is.
