Hi guys Im new to the game. I guess I figured since I just got my team i would just scrap this season and build up some cash and be competitive next season. Do you guys have any tips?

Also since Im not going to compete this season I might as well use the time to train someone. Do you guys have any good trainees that you are trying to sell?

A few tips:

- Read the game manual and the FAQ thread in the help forum, it will give you a very good starting ground
- If you're going to be away from the top spots in your league, or if it has a lot of "bot" teams, it's a good idea to invest in the draft, as you have a good chance of landing a decent trainee
- Users cannot advertise players on sale in the forums, but the transfer list will have a bunch of players on sale. Look for 18 or 19 y.o. with decent starting skills. If you want to train youngsters you should also get a decent trainer (see Staff). A level 4 (Advanced) trainer should do, try not to overpay when looking for staff members.
- Also think about expanding your arena. Arena expansions and managing the ticket prices are crucial to maximizing your income.

Good luck!

well look at the TL, there are a bunch of good guys!

Though you can't ask to buy a player, it's against the rules.

a few tips though.....

1. Build Arena.

Start with building 3 luxury boxes, and courtside. Since you're throwing your season away, invest in courtside seats so that you can get money back from your build.

2. Train defense.

Defense is the way to go in BB. Defense is what makes players more valuable. When you get your player, train ID (Inside Defense) if your player is above 6'8'' feet and taller. Train OD (Pressure) If you have a player 6'4'' and shorter. Train both ID and OD if you have a SF-like guy (6'5'' feet to 6'7'' feet) Train Defense until your player reaches about 10 (prominent)

3. Train their primaries.

Depending if your training a Big or a Guard, train Defense first. Then after that do primares.

Inside Shooting, Rebounding, Inside Defense, and Shot Blocking are the primaries for the Bigs (PF and C)

Jump Shot, Jump Range, Outside Defense, Handling, Driving, and Passing are the primaries for Guards (PG and SG)

All skills are needed for an Small Forward.

let's start with Guards.

PG- Need to have a lot of passing, driving and OD. With Handling a secondary need skill. and then Jump Shot and Jump Range and the thirtiery skills needed for a Guard.

SG- Need to have a lot of Outside D (OD), Jump Shot, and Jump Range. Passing, handling are secondary skills, while driving is the thirtiery skills needed for an SG

SF- Need to have OD, ID (inside Defense), and passing for a good SF. Now here's where things get tricky. If you want a inside oriented SF (like a look inside offense SF; going to the paint) train more inside shot. If you want a more outside oriented SF, train Jump Shot (JS) and Jump Range (JR) more for outside shootng and threes. Rebounding, Handling, Driving I think are the secondary skills for an SF and Shot Blocking (SB) is the thirtiery skill needed for an SF.

Don't get me wrong every skill is needed for a good SF.

PF-Inside Shot, Inside D, Rebounding, are the skills needed greatly. Jump Shot and OD are the secondary skills needed for an PF. Then Handlin is thirtiery skills for a PF. you don't need driving that much nor passing either. But good passing would make you have a luxury PF

C- Center is the most used position in the game right now. You can find various builds of Centers on the Transfer List (TL) but if you want to train a Center that is fine by everyone. I am very good at training centers and am training centers right now. Inside Shot, Inside Defense, Rebounding and Shot blocking are the skills needed for a center. I think OD and Passing are good skills needed for a cneter as well, but everyone has their own opinions. Handling is also key for a center to handle the ball through the paint.

Thanks. That was really helpful. What about the schemes? I mean I have a basic understanding of what each one is because I watch basketball, but is there one that is better in this game engine or is it just a matter of personnel?

You can win with a lot of tactics in this game, but right now Look Inside is the best overall. While it may be best per unit of salary and overall, the players needed to make it work well can be more expensive because you need guards with high OD (most expensive skill on the TL for good reason) and secondaries are more important overall (high secondaries add significant price on TL but are generally worth it).

When you are just starting out, I think base offense is the best.
-It is versatile; you can run it with lots of different rosters.
-It is forgiving; you can not know much about the game and still make it work.
-It is powerful; don't think that just cause it's easy to use it's only for beginners.
-It adapts to the team you are playing against more than other offenses, exploiting their weaknesses.
-It encourages building a balanced roster which is a great strategy for any team but especially newer ones.

yeah, what w alloy said.

There are also other offenses too, but LI is the way to go.

Look inside is an offense that gives it to your bigs, they go to the paint and shoot in.

Guards would need some driving too to make LI work I think as well.

Passing is a major too in LI. and then for bigs Inside shoting is a MUST

for defending LI, you have to have great inside defense, which would make it hard or the good IS bigs to score on you.

BUT like w alloy said, you can win with various tactics, just need some work

I advise trying to find a mentor on the offsite (Like I showed you in the first post, but here you go if you need to be reminded(http://s3.zetaboards.com/BuzzerBeater_USA_NT/index/) and BB Mail Mod-jfarb (28800)

if not, you can ask questions here and a lot of great people will answer

Back to the tactics you have to decide what YOU like. Not what others like. If you like Guards bombing threes, then you're a princeton guy, so what if you do princeton? At least you're not the 90% of other people who use LI all the time.

If you like Motion, go with Motion....just saying you decide what you want your team to be focused on.

Right now I'd say since your throwing this season away test out some tactics. see what they look like. Test em. And then at the end of the season you will know what Offensive scheme you like and use it.

as for defense, man to man is the ideal tactics and like, 95% of BB teams use it.

there are also other defensive schemes, but I think someone else would be better explaining it.

Given that you just started, i'd grab an advanced trainer, and choose either guards or bigs to develop. Work on understanding game shape, and once you feel comfortable with how to do that, prepare your arena for moving to D.IV while getting ready to improve your veterans that aren't going to get development.

Rome wasn't built in a day, don't try to master every aspect of this game in a few days.

I would rather not play this game in some sort of formulaic, mathematical way. All this game is is a source of fun lol. Its meaningless in my life other than recreation. Why would I play it in a way that you admit isn't any fun? And I disagree that that is the only way to succeed in this game. The Orangemen will hopefully serve as proof of this in the near future :)

I'll say only one thing that you should keep in mind while playing bb is that its a marathon, you must not be the fan of Bolt.
