Let's say you were analyzing your players over the seasons and discovered that while you have an outstanding player during the regular season, for whatever reason, he crashes during the post-season posting horrific numbers in comparison to what he does during the regular season. Even though you may have considered him a vital piece to the puzzle and has been a member of your team since you joined, the statistics do not lie when it comes to telling you the importance of his role to your team's success, it all comes down to one question:

Would you trade/transfer the player?

Keep in mind that he's a key piece to making it to the playoffs but when it comes to playing in the playoffs, you have to look elsewhere for help because he just won't show up.

I would look at why he is not doing well in the playoffs, is he matched up against NT or U--21 NT players? Did you change your tactics? And lastly what is his experience, that may influence it as well. Before selling a guy look a little deeper is my suggestion as the guy you replace him with may have the same issues......

Well, he has always faced off against a better player than him but his backup has played his fair share of minutes against those same players and played better even though he's considered a lesser player. I am unaware of the experience of his matchups but his experience is a 4 even though he's been in the league since Season 4 when I took over the team. Of course, at the time his experience was a 1 when I took over so he has seen his bumps. His matchups are not NT or U21 NT players either.

The thing is though is that I might be able to transfer him and take the new money plus the money I've saved up and acquire a younger better version of him that will actually be able to compete against the competition come playoff time (if I make it there).

Anyways, it's just a hypothetical situation really. I have not even decided if I want to but the idea of being able to potentially make my team better by selling him off now while his asking price is high so I can improve my chances of obtaining a younger more trainable player is enticing.

there is something like "not showing up"... someone wrote a week or 2 weeks ago a very nice post about it... And from the replies people gave to that post, they experienced it too. There are quite a few games where the winner doesnt make sense, or why a super guard vs terrible OD shoots 1 from 14 instead off his usual 10 from 14 vs a super OD defense...

I understand your question and I have seen it happen too. Players underperform big time when you need them the most.

I would sell him and find another player.

Imagine the following. You have a player that scores every game 30 points for you but by the end off the 3rd quarter he always fouls out and he isnt around in the 4th quarter. Would you keep that player and buy another player who could score 8points every quarter and not foul out and thus scores 32 in the game? I am sure you getting my point :)

If this player stops you from not getting promoted season after season (for whatever the reason might be) sell him and replace is my suggestion...

Who said I was complaining? I'm trying to experience BuzzerBeater to the fullest extent. I was never complaining about the situation. In fact, I've been trying to convince myself that it's all in my head that in truth I just want to keep the player around until he hits his mid-30's and starts regressing, basically making him the first G.O.A.T for my team Hall of Fame.

In other words, I'm having the hardest time letting someone go and I'm trying to convince myself that the best thing to do for the team is to capitalize on the transfer market so I can improve my team for the long run. It was when I was doing my analysis that I discovered that he collapses during the post-season (which I've made the post-season ever season since I joined BuzzerBeater so I have a large amount of data to work with - 136 regular season, 14 playoff matches).

Now I know that where he underperforms is determined by a lot of factors, especially by the tactics I use and the enthusiasm level at the time. However, I was primarily a Run-N-Gun offense for the first 6 seasons and have recently began switching to a more friendly offense for my post-players so I can train them better so his performance now can certainly be affected by the changes in the offense. However, during my first 6 seasons, he was the primary gunner in my RNG offense and was highly effective during the season but became almost ineffective for the playoffs, usually the primary reason why we lost because he couldn't get hot during those games.

Anyways, again I must reiterate that I am not complaining. A lot of these situations happen in the NBA where a player is a hot performer during the regular season but disappears during the post-season. Same goes in the NFL and MLB and NHL and MLS, etc. Now, like you, I doubt that BB has programmed anything like "disappears in playoffs" into the game engine logic or whatever, but there is no denying when I analyzed his numbers, he certainly disappears when it comes to playoff games.

Logic says to try and replace him or just utilize him during the regular season and let him take the backseat during post-season play. I just can't make up my mind because like someone mentioned earlier, there's nothing hard-coded into the engine that says I will get a better player. It's just the nature of the beast and what makes this game more enjoyable, having to make these hard decisions.

God I wish I had the money to donate. Of all of the text-based sports games I've played (Hattrick, Front Office Football, FOF College Years), this game is just more fun to play.
