I disagree that its that important. You can get a rough idea of most of the players key skills (scoring, defense, passing, rebounding) from their stats. I think not knowing the skills of other players potentially limits the evolution of players in the game. You have less info on what's working for other teams and how you could change to make your players and team more effective.

Actually, if i could spend 20k/week scouting my opponents players I'd be more inclined to pay that instead of scouting future draftees.

Everyone is not equally good at tactics and its only usefull to those who are good in that section and can exploit others weaknesses maximaly ,creating disadvantage.
It was very bad to know that all of my main player's skills are in that database :(
It should be stopped as soon as possible for the sake of game and its spirit.
