Personally before we do this "second team" thing to placate small nation owners and create incentives for supporters, why not revamp the league system first?
I really think we're missing a big opportunity by not having regional leagues for smaller nations. e.g. Asian league with Japan, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan. Then an owner in, say, Mongolia or Laos keeps their flag, and enters the regional leagues.
Then either:
a) revamp pro leagues to become continental, dictating spots in leagues by a team performance coefficient. So an Asian pro league might have four strong Chinese teams, two Russian teams, an Iranian team, a Japanese team, a Thai team, etc. The pro leagues would become far more cutthroat for survival and just getting in would be an accomplishment in itself.
b) do the above, but outside of the league structure - a "champion's league" for every continent - and only offer it to supporters.
I've been playing this game since 2010, first with an American team and then with a Chinese team when I expatriated. The user base has shrunk by 40% over the last year or so and all my former BB buddies have stopped playing. I'd buy Supporter again if I saw any incentives for it other than what looks like an empty cash grab.
