@ Wagner, it will, as you say, be a good problem if we have to expand the HGL in coming seasons.
Indeed... We'd still be able to accept at least maybe 1-2 more teams and being able to retain the same league system (and keep the amount of work required in running the league at reasonably close to the same level it is now).
In the case of adding 2 teams for instance, possibly we could alter it slightly, so that at least similar amount of teams would reach post-season play than currently (75%). For instance so that 2 best would be guaranteed a place for the Second Round of Playoffs automatically (instead of current 4), and teams on regular season positions 3-14 would play on the First Round of Playoffs. (That way 77,8% of teams would be included in the postseason play). This is very flexible league system in many ways. And if we'd ever have to decide rankings for teams not reaching Second Round of Playoffs, it would be possible to play such 'classification match playoffs' during regular HGL Playoffs, etc. However, currently that's not needed.
And if it would be the case that some current HGL managers would decide to step aside after one or few seasons, then we'd of course be talking about replacing project, not an expansion of the league.
The biggest challenge in major expansion is the nature of HGL, as nothing happens automatically. Time is going to show how much work this is for me to handle anyway, but I'm giving it my best.
There's a lot of work in getting things running with already 16 teams, let alone if some additional bonus aspects such as statistics are being permanently introduced to HGL.
And if some would like the idea (on paper) of dividing HGL to Premier League and Division 1, then I want to remind these people that the amount of matches would then be about doubled (if same amount of matches would be played per team per regular season), which adds significantly to the amount of work included. Also, if same kind of amount of matches (than in HGL currently) would be played in two different level divisions with 8 teams in both, then it would be necessary to play twice against same opponent during season, which is more boring than playing against different opponent each round.
Other option would've been to include a lot less regular season matches - during season 1 of HGL it would've meant only 7 (!) regular season matches per team, and I guess some (many?) would consider that an inadequate amount.
So I far prefer current league system (instead of different level divisions) used in HGL, as it gives maximum amount benefit for least amount of work (and removes many questionable/arguable decisions, such as at which level would new teams joining HGL would start from, etc.), and is flexible in terms of adding more teams to postseason play if we slightly expand HGL in the future.
