7. Sessioes Doers (SGP #5)
Plus :
- Loaded with superstars players and deep bench, precisely those material that ready to fight any top teams.
Minus :
- Often lost composure on tight games.
Summary :
An SBBL runner up last season, Sessioes Doers kept it low profile on Season 17, as they are showing the same flashes as they did on last season even thought they're only at position #3 on big 8. This season, looks like SD's are trying to get more out of their bigman, as Eike Balkhausen (15ppg 11rpg 3.5apg 1.8bpg) and Phil Hanson (20ppg 14rpg) both are on their season high, but it affected Ricardo Paz production , as he only averaging 18ppg, down 6 from last season 24ppg. Van Hagebeek still on his usual production with 10ppg and 11apg, and SD's even brought youngster U21 Yap Kwang Meng into the mix. Although only averaging 6ppg and 5apg, he showed no fear on attacking the rim, and not afraid of taking big shot. At the end, for SD to climb higher, they can' afford for any close defeat anymore, such as their last Final Rematch defeat to Pekanbaru Jaguars at WTD Arena.
Prediction : #3
8. Singapore Showstoppers (SGP #11)
Plus :
- Consistent Offensive/scoring production.
- Tough inside
Minus :
- Perimeter defense. Although improved, but will still need help.
- Veteran presence, if they want to make sound in playoff.
Summary :
As big 8 underachiever, Singapore Showstoppers tried their best to swim under league highlights, even managed to sneak into Big 8 #1 after recently defeated Shohoku Backers as visitor 107-92. With their latest victory, it has make Showstoppers known as the best performers on road games, as they also beat the Defending Champs Pekanbaru Jaguars as visitor at early season 17. Not a surprise for their recent surge, as the Showstoppers just added in a new wingman Urbano Di Giuseppe (18.0 ppg 5apg 5ppg), who seemed fit in nicely on the team that in need of good wingman, and improved their longtime weaknesses, outside defense. The Showstoppers until today, still powered by duo bigman Noel Lima (16.6ppg 15.6rpg), Pedro Pineda (19.6ppg 11rpg), with their ballfeeder from their combo guard Xiong Jiayun (14.6ppg 5.8apg 4rpg) and wingman Alfredo Coutinho (15.4ppg 3apg 3rpg). And their bench, Edmundo Cabral (12ppg) Lin Shun Choon (7.1ppg) and Ong Yi Ying (6ppg), contributed pretty well even though overshadowed by their starters performances. If these troops kept solidfy their habit to win on road, they will be a team to beat anyone on SBBL.
Prediction : #4
