Why You said that stats are useless?
Even in Your players You could see some relationship.
Player1
stats -> skills
7 RB -> 6 in RB - 7 rb is pretty high on PG and Your player have 6 rb -> stats are correct
10 AS -> 7PA - obvious many assists tell that he has got very high Passing skill
3 BL -> 6SB -> 3 blocks is high so he has got pretty nice blocks skills
0STL -> 1 OD -> not steals means low

Player2
0AS => 1PA - no assists -> low passing
2BL -> 6SB - nice blocks -> pretty high SB
2ST -> 5OD - some steal -> nice OD

Remember that player could play agains strong player (then his stats will be lower than skills says) or weaker (so his match stats will be higher)

Exception proves the rule ;).
Maybe he just play against players with low rebounding? I don't say that stats perfectly reflects skills, but for sure are useful and generally tells about strong and weak sides of player

That's why I said "some cases". The first example was to probe the first point about stats. The second one was to probe that the orange balls can be tricky. 3-5 in players with almost the same tsp... but maybe will be many times where those aspects will work fine but I won't be sure anymore.

Balls could be tricky, secially the first one. First ball specify salary of player and for young players differences are less than 500$ for each grade and that could be 1-2 point in skills. Some skills are "cheaper" than others so I can image player with B grade with lower TSP than A grade. And that's the place for match stats which could say about player strong and weak points. All together could give the picture how player may look, but of course there are also space for some random stuff ;)

Look at this player:

18 yo - SF - 5-5 A
That guy shouldn't even be a SF though? The high PA makes him a PG by quite a margin.

I don't really know how it works. But anyways, I don't pay attention to that. I used to believe in the orange balls until now.... jejejeje

Update on the player from the original post.

Star Rating: 5 Ball
Potential Rating: 2 Ball =(
Grade Rating: A+
Age: 19

So I guess this is a case of a player who peaked in high school and likely won't amount to much in BB.
