So I'm thinking about running a 9 man rotation for the playoffs. I'd only carry 9 men and I'd have the same player backup both my PG and SG. The goal there is to have all three players play large minutes. Kind of like a 6th starter type of thing. Has anyone ever tried this? Is something like this plausible?

Thanks in advanced for all of your help!

To help you so you know what to expect...

PG and SG starters will get around 36 minutes by default (if the coach strictly follows your directions) meaning your backup will get around 24 mins (12+12). That's if your backup is pretty close to the starters considering the skills.

Also, opposition strength influences minutes so if you have weaker opponent, starters may be rested in the game and end up exactly near the 36 mins mark or below but if the opposition is stronger, coach will probably use them longer in the game and they might play around 40 minutes and your backup only around 16.

If one of the starters is much better than the second starter and a backup, he will play almost the whole game (let's say 44 mins) and the rest of the minutes will be distributed to the other starter and a backup.

This might be useful info for you since you know how strong your players are and how strong your opponent is.

cheers

How about using the blank lineup, is it better than setting it yourself? I've never used it, I have trainees, and I can manage GS with SFDC. I'm curious if it gives better results..

I'm experimenting with blank lineup for couple of weeks now and it has great effects on minutes and game shape. AI coach handles rotation better. This week I have 7 of 10 players at 9 game shape. My only trainee plays the third match to get the training with "strictly follow" option.

When you say 'blank lineup', do you mean you just select the guys who can play at the top. Then set tactics and leave the rest?

I have no experience with this at all. Although I am intrigued to give it a go.

Yeah, you don't set starter/backup/reserve. If you have some guys with bad secondaries, it can go wrong very quickly. I've seen some strange substitutions regardless, though.

I do it in the private league each week. Works ok but less control over minutes. If you only have 1 or 2 trainees I guess you would just name them in their spots and leave the rest clear.

Yes.

Yesterday, game shape 7/10 players again on 9 GS. When I was managing the minutes, I never had more than half of the players on GS 9. Try it if you don't train or have only 1 trainee.

I've tried that too but they are immediately substituted with "let coach decide". And if you set "strictly follow" and you have blank spots, some weird rotations can happen and trainee gets 3 quarters and gets substituted in the fourth.
