Yup, got all the tools already :D - he's a strictly motion/m2m player, with no enthusiasm usage. My players outrank his except for his center, who's a relative beast at 24k salary. Unfortunately, I have 3 trainees set for this week at center, and my weakest one at 5k salary (and really a SF) is up to face him. I have both home advantage and enthusiasm, which is high enough for TIE to still give me a good edge. Additionally, he has inept/mediocre GS on most of his players. If it wasn't for the cup game after (where I might get a chance to win if I play it right), I'd be running all over his grill.

So far, I've started using the tools and seeing some major improvement in my management over the last week. Even though I started horribly, I still think I can pull out a top 4 season!

I'm sure by now you can guess who my opponent is, so do you think I can field a trainee at C and still pull the win?

Although their star C can rebound well, he is down to 7GS and he is inconsistent scorer. His real scoring comes from his wing men, so I would consider playing 3-2 zone. If you are concerned about the strength of your zone, you could play m2m and swap your PF with C on defense, which does not impact your trainees minutes. Just keep in mind that this applies to your PF bench and reserves as well, so be sure the players you have in those positions are capable of filling that role. Anyway, that's my 2 minute take. I think a win is possible, especially with HC advantage. Good luck.

Yep, that last suggestion hit the spot.

After the swap to m2m/ C-PF, the projection looks good!

+1 for you!

i think personally that 2-3 is still the most efficient way, to kill an inside focus team because you avoid more damage inside then you get through outside attacks, and has still a small plus in rebounding.

I see. Therefore, Mod-CrazyEye, you disagree with the faq? Since Motion seems to be an outside based attack and it recommends the 3-2?

no, i only disagree that 2-3 is a useless defence generally, and against motion i prefer 3-2 or 1-3-1(depending that you have superior rebounder)

I disagree with some people who say it should NEVER be used. It may be less common at higher levels due to better shooters but it still has its place.

but you also have better defenders outside, i don't think that the game is so different in low and high levels.

To Sleet - my OD for my G's and SF is 7/8. I'm almost certain that my opponent is sticking with Motion. His guards aren't that great, but his center is a relative beast. I'm pretty certain to lose the matchup there.

Because of the advice which I've (thankfully) received, it appears that I can sacrifice my insides to shut down the perimeter. I was initially going to go m2m, but since I picked up a pretty ok SF from the wire (10k salary, outside based, for less than 100k!), it's perked up my stats that even in the tool I get the same team rating no matter which defence I use.

I think I've worked out the question I originally asked - the tool is really only for a basic guideline of a team's efficacy, but in general,as long as your individual skills are evenly matched through all the positions, the basic strategy as stated in the FAQ should be used.

All of your help has been greatly appreciated! This is my second season, having started 3 games into the 13th, I got promoted from Div 5 to 3 for this season, and I've won 4 games in the cup (fifth on Thursday)! I'm fairly enthused with this game, in it for the long haul!

Unless your C is a huge underdog compared to your opponents', I always advocate 1-3-1 against Motion. I can't think of another example when two different tactis create such a mismatch. It's true that they will have 20 offfensive rebounds instead of 5-7. So what? Their shooting percentage will almost always tank under 20%. I normally always let their C get 30 rebounds, as long as they shoot something like 17-95.
