Chris and Yuck. First thank you for defending me. I'm sorry this turned into a discussion. Chris I accept your views as part of the culture and your apologetic tone I do not , not , think you've been rude. Thank you. Yes, experience is something here. Let me add a fact. It's not my first account here but I don't like to talk about the past. My previous team was a D IV that ran 3-2 regularly because my SF got +10 rebounds often. My current D V team is lucky if they are proper skills in anything, but I do have some respectable skills.
For me, it's a matter of smiles.

When you pick a zone, defensive assignments are randomized
, so any given shot can theoretically be guarded by any player on the court. You are right, this might be more instructive to think of as a defensive rotation, rather than shifting the PF towards the perimeter.

What exactly do you mean by randomized?

I am not a mathematician but I think I am getting caught up on the different ways that people use the term "random" when they actually mean something else.

Do you mean that it is random in that there is absolutely no discernible pattern at all?
For example when a shot is taken someone contests it but the game engine has no set way of determining who that is.

Or do you mean that there is a set of probablities that dictate who will contest a shot in the zone?
For example in a 3-2 a shot from the top of the three point line is contested by PG 25% of the time, SG 25%, SF 25%, C 12.5% and PF 12.5%? (these are totally made up numbers just being used to try to clarify what I am asking)
