Well, for a long time I didn't have much IS at all, but when you miss inside shots off of offensive rebounds you lose out on a lot of potential points. So I like to have just enough to be able to convert those opportunities into points, which actually happens to be right around the mediocre range you mentioned. I do agree that some teams have too much IS, the waste of IS is actually a main principle behind my lack of ID, if you have a big with 18 IS, and you're up against my inside defenders, you're wasting salary that could be better spent elsewhere.

I would love to see some games rerun with LI, but I'm not sure how much that would really show us. The luck factor may be big enough that even running the same tactics twice could yield fairly different results. And, if teams did improve overall from switching to LI, that may just be an indication that current training trends breed players that are more fit for such an offense, rather than proving that LI is indeed better than the alternatives.

LI does seem to be the best tactic more often than not for most teams, but I still wouldn't say it's more powerful than other tactics, it just fits a lot of teams. I feel that any tactic used with the optimal team can be just as effective. Hopefully I can back that up by beating some top LI teams in B3.

The main problem seems to be that it's just too expensive to train offensive skills higher than OD. 20 JR on a SG or 20 PA on a PG is rarely seen. It's also rare to see inside defensive skills trained to the same extent, because center trainers usually have an inside offense, and rebounding is always necessary. Doesn't leave much room for SB. I'm curious what a 20ID/20SB center with decent RB and very low IS could do against a LI, I imagine it wouldn't be pretty.

That actually may be a great way to beat high OD LI teams. Have a great scorer with high JS/JR/DR, maybe some IS, have a 20 ID/SB defender, and then have some role players with good OD, PA, and RB. It's a shame that it's so hard to find players like that on the TL.

So I'm in the middle of training a SF. What do you guys think if I were to train him 18OD 18ID and like 15SB and 8-10 in all other skills. Just making him a defensive stopper. Do you think this type of player would be useful, or should I be considering other skills, or how could I make a more salary efficient defensive powerhouse.

We have a lot of great outside shooters. Unfortunately, we play all our games indoors.

You could play around with a salary calculator http://www.how8.com/bb/index.php to try to make a salary efficient player. I wouldn't focus on the exact salaries, it may not be updated for the current drops in salary, and there will be shifts to salary by the time you finish training your player. However, the way each skill affects salary should remain the same. To have as efficient a player as possible, you'd want the salaries for all 5 positions to be around the same level.

I like your 18OD, 18ID, 15SB, player, but if all his other skills were at 10 it would only be a minimal increase in salary to have PA at 17. So that player could not only shut down your opponent's SF, but also increase the shooting efficiency of the rest of your team.

That sounds good. do you thing a player like this would be a valuable defender at any position? say if someone was injured or there was only one dominate player on the other team that you had him guard?

I think so. He'd play best offensively at small forward, or as a look inside point guard, but defensively he'd be effective against virtually any player on the opposition.
