My guess is that the shot selection is the difference.
Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

By definition princeton is what you are saying. Lots of passing, good outside shooters on every position, and that opens the basket for cuts inside, since the opponents should guard 4 or 5 on the perimeter. That makes easier to find a good shot under the basket, since the opponents bigs cant clog the lane and block those. This is how you create those inside shots. The best recent example that i can think of using the princeton at max, was the Kings of Webber/Peja/Divac. None of them was a low post scorer. Everyone was good passer/jump shooter. They could finish inside but there focus was the outside shots.
Now about the game. Neutral tactics are trying to exposed the opponents weakness, but there is not any focus. For example the opponent SF has weak ID, then your SF if he has good IS will try to take the ball in. That means that you can play inside/out. BUT That means that you can waste lots of time on the try to find those...
Now using again the manual, it says that slower pace is looking for the best shot. To find it you need lots of passing. If you dont have it then its a large possibility to not be able to shoot, or your players will force to take a bad shot.
Again the game is mostly about much ups that anything else...
