I hire a level 7 doctor. I know there is still a chance that my player gets injured.

I hire a very aggressive player. I know I'll have better chances to injure the opponent's player.

These are statistics indeed but I don't call it luck. However I admit there is a part of luck: maybe the opponent manager will screw up because he goes on vacation or whatsoever.

Sorry that my english isn't good enough to clearly argue my point... well, doesn't matter anyway :p

there is 1/16 chance to land here, so if that happens you just have to take it :p

and if you manage to work your way out, pray not to get in 2.2!

Amen to that. Going from III.6 into II.2 is like jumping out of the fire and into a furnace!!!

If I buy a lotto ticket and win, I got lucky. There is a 1 in 40000000000 or whatever chance of my ticket being the winning number. Yes, it is statistics, but it would still be very lucky for me to win.

Now buy 2 lotto tickets: you'll double your chances to win. Will you be as lucky if you win then?

Then make it with a BB player: if you play a bloke that has never fouled in his entire career, your chances are very low to injure someone. If you play a bloke that fouls out every game, youll be less surprised if you manage to injure an opponent. Less lucky, too?

What's luck?

I make my luck myself. I don't think I'm lucky if I hit 36 free throws in a row (and I've done it before :p). I know I'm a fine shooter and I can hit them.

Imo, it's all about working your own chances to make something happen.

But you know that even though you can hit 36 in a row eventually you will miss two in a row. If that happens to be in the last seasons of a big game where you needed them and everything felt good but they just didn't drop?

What about if you are in the final seconds of a huge close game and your PG gets raked across the face and there is a no call allowing the opponents to then get an easy score at the other end. Four point turnaround in the final seconds of a game can easily determine the winner. Was Miami lucky or skillful to make that play that 99/100 would be a bad play?

What about the NBA draft? Didn't Charlotte Bobcats show the most "skill"? But in the end New Orleans Hornets got Anthony Davis. It would be skill if it was rigged by David Stern as a gift for the new owner.

If I miss a free throw, I can only blame myself.

I hate Miami. Wade fouled Rondo. There was no call, thus it was a good foul. If there was a call, it'd have been a bad foul.

Charlotte was unlucky not to get Davis? Actually, they had more chances to miss on him than to get him. They gave it a shot, losing most of their games this season. It didn't work out but they still get the 2nd pick.

What about if Davis becomes the next Oden? That kind of thing happens and you have to make do.

I just can't talk about luck. Things happen and can happen, adapt yourself. You can make cases either ways.

Matter of philosophy :p

Not gonna argue this anymore, everybody has his own point of view. And I feel you guys have an edge on me since english is not my mother tongue and I haven't spoken it for 2 years hehe

EDIT: therefore it's hard to share my thoughts/feelings

Luck can be minimised, but not deleted.

Definition of luck: Success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions.
