I agree with Kingsblade. If we had a cup, we could call it the Naismith Cup, just like the Stanley Cup. However, we call it the NHL and not the Stanley Hockey League.


Of course, until the NHL felt it had to appeal to the lowest common denominator, it had conferences called Campbell and Prince of Wales, and divisions called Patrick, Norris, Adams, and Smythe. All in recognition of the history of the game.

I'll shift my support to the GWNL if and only if the divisions can also be renamed from Big/Great 8 to the Moranis and Thomas divisions (or even the Bob and Doug divisions).

I'm not counting on it. If the division names aren't configurable per country (and per league in that country) by the BBs, though, perhaps this will make them consider it.

Point taken. I wasn't aware of the different names for divisions. I also like the idea of changing the names of divisions in our country. It does give it some uniqueness.

Just wondering what is happening with the name change. Is the Naismith League coming into effect this season, or is there going to be a new vote?
