Major League Soccer has been moving from large NFL sized football stadiums to smaller ~20k stadiums, and one of the major drivers is to create venues closer to the size of ticket demand.

Why buy season tickets when you know there will be thousands of seats unsold?

Because season ticket holders get perks and generally there is a small discount involved as well.

Certainly there are economies of scale- no soccer team in the USA could draw 70,000 fans and operational costs on a stadium of that size are a lot more than on a dedicated soccer stadium that seats 22,500.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

well i won our division,

and just to find 500 ticket holders increase, kinda sad to see that my team didnt seem to raise that much buzz to get more people to like my team!

I have the same problem, I play in second division in Italy and last season I won my league during the regular season, but now my ticket holders have dropped from 1687 to 1220!!! All teams in my league have increased the number of their ticket holders, even the teams that played the play-out!! Now I'm the team with less number of ticket holders in my league! It's very very strange!
