I don't mean to be offensive (please forgive me if anyone thinks I am), but I reckon you got a good (slightly easy) run out of 3.6. It was the easiest season to do it in. Chasers tried to come back too early, I had just left, and Akuma was still building up for a blowout the following season.

You're probably right mate, but I actually made a few acquisitions that year to push myself from just making up the numbers in the playoffs to actually challenging.

Yeah there was no Goldfish, and many teams were positioning themselves for later runs, so I guess I just timed my run well. Mmmmmm gave me a good run as did PP but, yeah there wasn't the depth that there was in previous or subsequent years.

Nothing wrong with timing your run mate, that just makes you a willy manager. I'm doing the same thing this season, JBallers made a push for it last year as did PP, akuma and dragonZ. Most of them are rebuilding now and trying to save a little cash so this is definitely my season to win or burn out trying.

Div II or bust!

The depth was there just not put into players at that time. If anything, it was lucky but it was also good play, too.

timing is key

some people think i did the same on my abbl run

sure had 2 wait a bit while koop, iwen, smeltz & fat buy all went through the league

I guess I agree with you all. Its the combo of timing and luck you never know Leeroy one of us could make some big purchases at the end of the year if you are the only legit contender and we think we are a chance.

Of course as has kind of been said this could back fire and once again set the team back a year or two behind other potential promoters.

In my opinion, luck isn't a part of this game.

Injury? --> your doc isn't good enough OR your opponent has some aggressive players

Other managers making a better run than you at the title? --> You gotta check their team history, transfer history so you can give yourself an idea about where they stand

Trainees not ready? --> Timing!

Though you can fail and bounce back. There is probably no perfect management.

I'd love to see you analyse koops relegation series in the ABBL and the season that followed

Of course luck is part of the game.
Let's say that you have a level 7 doctor. And you are playing in the best of 3 finals in the ABBL.
You win the first game, your opponent wins the second game.
It is down to a final game decider.
In the first half your 2 starting players get injured.
This causes you to lose the game.

You got unlucky.
Your opponent got lucky.

Luck exists.

speaking of koop he has another famous incident that also shows how sometimes it is hard 2 know if it is luck or skill or lack of skill

koop in season 14 was great he had a studly team & did a ace job 2 reach finals but was up against The Meateors who were heavy favs 2 win

koops team was good, & had 3 real stars

Rooney the pg was on a mission that season
Nicky Shipp the sg was unlike any guard we had seen @ that time i never knew his stats but he was unguardable
Reasat Khan was a solid sf & still plays in the abbl today

g1 @ home meaty has the biggest brain fart ever & goes the 2/3 zone against a totally outside team & plays run&gun when his bigs r much better then his guards & koops guards have better def than his big men anyway & somehow loses

the whole league was like wtf?

then meaty forgets to set a scrimmage lineup & screws the gs of his whole team as they all play 100 mins except the bench who play 30

Salvador Jiménez Llanes drops from 18.0 - 14.5 rating
Sosaia Carrington drops 13.5 - 11.0
Eusebio Ravasio drops 14.0 - 12.0
etc

so g2 @ koops house koop gets the win, makes the abbl & now is 1 of the best teams in australia

so it was meatys "skill" that gave koop the "luck"
