I don't know if you can call it 'wrong', but maybe a few experienced tips might help.
Having a quick look at your Div V, looks like you have 4 teams including yourself competing for the title this season (which from reading here a bit of late, seems to be a lot for Div V, US) I would do a fair bit of scouting on the teams you need to beat.
Miami Inferno - one 94k SG and a team full of scrubs, but does know the value of Game Shape but does not understand Tactics (he plays LI every game with a 94k SG??). Has a small Arena making no money because of half filling it.
Reno Raccoons - He has a decent 34k C, a reasonable SF @ 9k that plays a SG and a team of scrubs, he has no idea of Game Shape or it seems Tactics, he has a bigger Arena than Miami Inferno and is selling seats. I don't think this guy is the threat to your title hopes, 2nd place here is the better manager.
WINNING Celtics - Better team balance 14k SG (plays PG), 19k SF, 20k C and some ok guys to round out, he needs to get a grip on Game Shape (the key guys are playing well below their $ value) as for Tactics, he is doing what he needs to to score big and get a good points diff but it is costing his players Game Shape. His Arena is ok in size and has been selling out a bit, so he might have some cash saved to buy for a push to the title, keep an eye on his purchases in the next couple of weeks.
It looks like you have the superior Arena and have been selling ok (I would look at your prices on Luxury Boxes $800 to $600 and Lower Tier $35 to $30, Bleachers $10 to $11)
If you can work on getting all your guys on your team to Proficient in the coming weeks, maybe pick up a decent C defender soon and get his Game Shape up to Proficient, you should be right.
Your arena is coming along well. If you promote you will get a promotion bonus as well as a bump in ticket sales (so you can adjust your ticket prices if/when this happens to capitalise)
I am not sure if you are Training at all, you seem to have a lot of youth spread across most positions (maybe you can give some info as to your Training plans/ history)
You are doing well I would say, and asking for help this early is also a great sign that you will do well. I think promotion is always a good thing. You could promote with this team (with the added C) and look to build once you see what you are up against.
