Email the U21 coach & ask them. They should at least tell you what they are looking for from that position, so that would help you in training him for the U21's.
Why the interest in having him in the U21's? Club before country ;)

I emailed the U21 manager in the begining of the season.. Havent heard back yet. not getting my vote next time around

Train OD all season for your best shot at making the team.

Train OD with some PA mixed in the rest of the year would be my suggestion. Something like this.. If he does not get hurt much and you single position train him the next 2 seasons you have a chance.. Just keep him updated in the US database and you can also see what you are competeting against...

With dedicated one position training and a level 4 or higher trainer, I think any decent $3.5k trainee with allstar+ potential can make any U21 team. Staying healthy for the 3 seasons is a variable.
