The skin looks like done from different colored patches sometimes that's because each face is complemented up from predesined face parts i.e. numerous versions of eyes, noses, eyebrows, hair types (when we are at it, that could be revisioned too, e.g. too numerous mohawkesque styles), mouth, shape of head,...
Loook around there is an old thread buried somewhere about that with a link to creator and attempts to nba players lookalikes.
