Have you tried the "Strictly Follow Depth Chart" instruction? Even if it's a little bent by the fact that the starter is much better than the backup, it can bring his minutes down to ~38

Pace will also have an effect: Slower pace will take less effort

I normally Play patient with Strictly Follow Depth Chart. One of my players with proficient and or prominent stamina still puts up around 40+ minutes. My backup has a salary almost twice that of the starter. Last 4 games: 47, 42, 41, 47 minutes

Yeah, I think that will work in the context of this game, but it is only the best of a set of bad options.

Essentially, it would sound like this:
Phil Jackson (to Kobe): "Oh, sorry Kobe, I don't know how to give you 35 minutes as a starter, so I am going to have you come off of the bench. It's for your own good!"

I only use strictly follow depth chart. With patient, it gave my guy 48 minutes last game

That's odd then. I've never had such a difference between starter and backup, but for instance in this game

One of the players (the one with 15.5 rating) is waaaaay better than the backup, and he only played 37 mins in a loss

Yeah, that's my experience too. If you're doing strictly follow depth chart, and you list a starter and backup for each position, you'll get in the range of 34-37 minutes for the starter, with the rest for the backup, when you loose (or the score is close).

If it's a blowout win, then it depends on when the garbage time kicks in. Typically I see 28 min starter/20 min backup, but I've also seen 25/23 split

Very often difference between starters and bench players in typical club in BB is very very higher than difference between Kobe and the worst player in NBA. Maybe here is answer.
All players in NBA are better than 99,9% players on whole world (and I suppose number of nines after comma should be higher). Meanwhile in BB very often bench player has skills like children in kindergarten.

It saddens me that this is said by an European. Man, you don't have a clue about European basketball. Teodosić, Navarro, Lorbek and a few others would like to have a word with you.
