It's just a rough indicator of how good a player is right now. It depends a lot on the player's game shape, so it doesn't tell you much. But still, when I'm scouting opponents the first thing I do is order them by DMI, then along with players salaries (a better indicator of their skill) I can get an idea of what I'm up against
