Game ratings are pretty comprehensive in showing what exactly what happened in the game.

Except game ratings don't show FT, which in some games that is the deciding factor

Game ratings show you how BB worked years ago...

You are telling a lot of assumptions as if they are proven and not discussable, but I´m pretty sure you are wrong in many aspects.

Getting off the one-upmanship train for a moment, I'd just like to add that high stamina is also a very effective skill when playing RnG.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

not what he wrote. Gameratings are afaik not changed with the new engine, and game ratings don't reflect many aspect of the game. For example you can get an medium outside defence rating with one or two superior defenders and one player who can not defence with man to man defence. But if this player is lineup against an ok shooter, your outside defence rating isn't worth that much.
Also ratings didn't include passing from the big guys, which isn't unimportant and a lot of other sideskills too.
A defence like a Full Court Press, totally destroys the ratings but a team playing this is much better then a man to man team with the same ratings.

And so on...

Ratings are ok to scout an opponent in advance, but to look if an outcome of a game is fair or surprising i never use it matchuprating and shot distribution have much more meanings but are nearly impossible to interpret without knowing at least the skills from one side

Where did you get this information from? Why would you seriously spread conjecture as gospel? Is it confirmed from a BB that the game ratings are outdated?

By the way passing is definitely included in the offensive flow of certain offenses.
As far as the defenses goes, sure it isn't meant to give you each defender's individual defensive stats, rather the team defense as a whole.

i played before and after the new engine, and noticed not an difference in the rating but in the gameplay. And i am quite sure there was threads for new rating also with bb participation.

And yes also before they wasn't perfect, they are a hint but not the real calculation.

By the way passing is definitely included in the offensive flow of certain offenses.

even in all but not with the c, at least not with Josef tool which calculates the ratings quite well. And afaik he tested a while with "all atrocious" player to get more informations the single skill impact of different positions.
if they have an impact, i would say it is smaller then in the game.

As far as the defenses goes, sure it isn't meant to give you each defender's individual defensive stats, rather the team defense as a whole.

but when you have a mediocore(high) defense whic works and one which wasn't, then the team defense of the working one is better ;) At least in m eyes. And the rating lacks in many places like that, which alone let them only tell the half story.

From Game Manual:

Offensive Flow (how well the offense produces assists, avoids turnovers): point guard weighted very heavily, shooting guard weighted medium, small forward weighted medium.

So if I play R&G with three outside shooters who have bad passing and good HA and two inside players who have great passing and rebounding, I have low OF, right? But will win a lot anyway because what my outside players miss, my two inside guys will try to get as an offensive rebound and than pass them the ball to try again.

So let's say you look at such a team, say "I will play FCP because he has bad offensive flow" and then you get destroyed. And you think to yourself "wow, those match ratings suck".

Yeah, I try not to look at them too much, because they can really distort a picture of a team.
