2nd Round Game 1 : Big 4th quarter lift Singapore over New Zealand 98-77

Hard to remember when was the last time victory over New Zealand, until the match just now.

After lead barely a point after third 62-61, Singapore start the last quarter with 19-7 run, taking advantage of the fatigued NZ players for tons of steals and fastbreak points, prompting NZ to call timeout after SGP last fastbreak dunk shot by Halim Mohd bin Noor, making it 81-69. However the timeout didn't help much for NZ to stop the bleeding, as Singapore kept extend the lead to 90-74 with 2 minutes left, and finished the game with all bench players on the floor.

Li An Wen lead SGP with 16pts 9rebs, Halim Mohd Noor 13pts, Lu Jun Siong & Fong Chang Chao both have 12pts. Those four players were damaging NZ painted area at most on fourth quarter. Playmaker Li Shi Keng had 11pts, 6 assists with 5/9 FG shooting, his first strong game with U21.

The victory eased SGP fans about their losses 79-85 from NZ on the last scrimmage games, and this also one of the important ones for Singapore to start their gruelin stretch, as Hongkong, Australia and the host Taiwan are awaiting.

Singapore will face their neighbour country, U21 Malaysia, on next week Monday 7pm.

2nd Round Game 2 : Singapore cruised past Malaysia 83-65 for two straight victory.

SGP staff were holding their breath after Li An Wen limped out of court after a hard foul by Mohd Raja Shoin, but Irfan Abdul Hamid, the unexpected man of the match on second half, keep the business smooth.

Hamid scored 10 pts in 2nd half, and Singapore used increased defense intensity in 4th quarter, managed their 20 points lead to prevail over neighbor fellow country Malaysia with final score 83-65.

The Merlions indeed didn't back down without their best inside man Li An Wen, and turned to their guard players Li Shi Keng & Kang Puay Ying. Li Shi Keng was superb again with his effective line 5/9 FG, nailed 11pts 7asts and 3stls. Kang Puay Ying has 8pts and 4asts off the bench, did his job well to contain Malaysian Ace Card, Samsul Abu Salim. Li An Wen scored 12 pts (6/7 FG) and 7 rebs before injured on 3rd quarter.

Mohd Abdul Rani led Malaysia with 23pts and 11rebs, Abu Salim has 11pts (9/10 FT) 4asts and 5rebs. Malaysia outrebounded Singapore 61-47.

Singapore will face the best Asian Nation team, Hong Kong U21 in their game on next week 7pm.

Great game! It was top class defense displayed by SGP U21. Keep up the good work

Thanks Bro, how I wish SGP u21 can have a classy PG like Samsul Abu Salim... still trying to figure out how to train one..

next game shd be very tough, as we are facing the Asians Bigdaddies... SGP vs HK, and MAS vs AUS.

Oh really... so this is one of tradermark of MAS every season... there'll be at least a good PG on each season. Our SGP kids were quite lucky as they were bought by some foreign teams that are really taking care of the player developments.

Your Zhou Pingyou is very fame man... I've never tracked those gigantic salaried PG , but i guess Zhou shd be within World Top 3.

Looks like Aussie is the strongest on our Pool. They have beaten Hongkong & Taiwan(host). And for NZ, you should be able to give a good fight. Good luck to you man, for my team, I'm more than happy to see the result this season, but I believe there's still some things to work out.

Hm... too bad for Zhou... gigantic salary always cause problem, and come worse when team start losing games. And always a good ones as U21 manager, you have your own trainee.. your 18yo HOF gonna be a electric guy in 2 seasons....

This sounds good to share. Maybe one day I can buy some MAS u21 trainee while i'm still training bigman.. Perhaps will look at it on next season.

I've already contacted the owner, hopefully he is convinced to lower it down. The kid is quite special. Anxious to see how his bigman-skilled paired with master Zhou's training recipe xD..
