after a few months from the release of the new staff system I think that I can safely claim that it added new costs, as feared by many users at that time.

I don't know, but maybe that was the intent, perhaps.

I'm curious to know if the league averages on the economy page are regular averages or if the median is used?

Looks like the arithmetic mean. My league has a scouting average of $ 16 250 (which I find surprisingly high, btw).

That's the problem with the arithmetic mean. It is very susceptible to outliers. So if, for example, two teams in your league are spending $40,000 on scouting, it could skew the average.

If you're worried about this, then you want to look at the median value.

I want to but at present I can't. ;-)

Taking an example - let's say 6 teams in your league are spending the max on scouting - $40,000. Even if the rest are spending 0, the mean shows an average of $15,000.

So do you still find $16,250 to be a high value? In most cases, it would probably make sense for the 6 worst teams to be spending the max on scouting.

For some reason I thought $ 30 000 was the max. :-) Okay, so it's 0/5/10/20/40.

The mean is somewhat high for my conference even with the real max value (and not the 30 000 I thought it was), but I haven't considered the expectations of the 3 new teams in Great 8 enough to judge their spending. It probably makes sense to spend more for 2-3 teams in that conference.

I expect my conference to have a 5-5-5-10-10-20-20-40 type of distribution, which is not dominated by outliers and where the mean is almost the same as the median value. Great 8 is trickier, it's probably more like 5-5-10-10-20-20-40-40. This is the top league, so there may be more big spenders than I expect.
