Finally it is your turn to be insulted. Don't patronize others in an offensive way.

Calling 20,000 people from all over the globe unwashed, uninterested and selfish is insulting.

I care about our community more than my team, call me unwashed all you want, my hygiene has never been that great anyway, ask my ex-wife.

Sorry, Plotts. I didn't think that you would take it literally. I agree it does sound insulting. The phrase comes from 1830's Victorian literature and it means the commoners. I was trying to say that there is a small, vocal group that think a great deal about this game and then there is a large, silent grup that rarely use the forums. I didn't mean to call anyone uninterested, actually dirty, or selfish. I'm going to change it now. Thanks for setting me straight.

The way you phrased it there just sounds so much better. It makes a lot of sense too. I prefer to read Tad Williams or Neil Giaman. If you would have made a nice Sci-Fi reference there, oh man, I'd have been all for it!

Well we don't know what is going to happen, exactly. I agree with you that it would be better if this were the case. It would also help average teams in smaller countries who don't have a lot of foreign players, of which there are many many many teams. I checked around in Spain's second divisions, in Italy's second divisions and there are lots of teams with over 50% domestic players. In Thailand, there are only five or six teams that have even 1 foreign player, so if it is a reduction in salary for domestic players, the teams behind the division leaders will be helped out a lot.

I didn't read everything.

In regards to taxes on foreign players, how about we group by region? Japanese managers wouldn't have to pay tax for Chinese, Korean players etc. Canada grouped with US, Mexico.

I have not looked at the Spanish or Thai teams, however I would guess that the reason for having domestic players is the same as in Sweden, namely the teams are pretty inactive abd are still playing mostly with their original, i.e. domestic, players.

If you take a look at their transfer history instead I am sure that you will see that once they buy new players they are generally foreign players, simply because it is so hard to find domestic players. I am sure that complicating the transfer for those teams will only result in alienating them even more from the transfer, thus resulting in fewer avtive teams.

Your first point sounds about right for Thailand.

I do not think it is difficult to find Spanish players on the market. There are 772 players with role player or lower potential available at the moment, and 125 players with MVP or higher. I also assume that div. 2.in Spain is mostly full of competitive teams.

Also, now it is easier to find domestic players than it was even last week. It might at some point (two seasons down the road) be more difficult to buy them becasue of local competition but I just don't believe that a 10% wage decrease for having a domestic player or 10% wage increase for having a foreign player is going to change people's minds about whether or not to use the TL.
Also in your post about Hoop Hoop Hooray, what if the domestic players are discounted? Then he saves $9000/wk. which is $126000 for the season, which is enough to build 603 bleachers.

Actually thats a pretty good idea. Could even have a credit by region and then a higher credit for home grown players.

I have not posted about HHH, I believe that Jokehim did. However it is not really important at all if HHH, or any other team, saves or looses money depending on if it is a discount or a tax. As you are compeeting against other teams that have the same conditions as you the effect is just some "deflation"/"inflation". The interesting thing is if it adds some fun or not for most teams, as -obviously- in the long run most people who have fun tend to play the game longer than those that find it boring.

Anyway, I do not think that a 10-20% (which is the proposal and not "10%") will have a big impact on people staying away from the TL, however I am certain that it will have some negative impact as the only thing it does for most teams is to complicate the transfer without added value/fun.
