I selected 12 players to start the World Championships this Monday.
Just because your player is not on the initial roster does not mean he will not be called up later.
Whether your player is already selected or is one of the rising stars, make sure he is in good shape and well trained.

The competition will be tough as usual, but I hope we get a few wins.
Our 1st match is against Hong Kong, current world #1!

We were defeated tonight by Hong Kong 119-83: (82344)
As expected, this 1st game against one of the best teams in the world was difficult.

The offensive tactical choice was probably not the most appropriate. I expected our PF Simelaine to be more involved in the scoring. A different choice wouldn't have changed the situation anyway, as our opponents were so superior.

MOTM: Vadiveloo Moshoeli with 20 points (9-19).

The next match will be against Uruguay #16.

Highlight: Muileki Simelaine makes history.
By grabbing 11 rebounds tonight, he becomes South Africa's all-time leading rebounder (1519).

This record had been held by Wicher van Agt for more than 50 seasons!

Tonight's 107-123 defeat against Uruguay is less painful than last week: (82347).

Our players shot very well (43-89). However, once again, we were largely dominated on the boards.

MOTM: Muileki Simelaine with 21 points (10-19), 10 rebounds and 4 assists.

The next game will be against Serbia, ranked 15th in the world.

Another defeat against Serbia, 80-114: (82350)

Nthite and Moshoeli were fairly accurate near the basket, but the entire team struggled from 3-point range (1-17).
With an offensive tactic focused on outside shooting, things quickly became complicated.
The Serbs were very efficient, converting nearly 50% of their shots (45-91).

MOTM: Anuiyelewa Nthite scored 26 points (12-21) and grabbed 7 rebounds.

We will face Belgium WR #2 next Monday.

As expected, this 1st round of the WC is very difficult. Belgium beat us 131-102: (82355)

The Belgians were very accurate in their shooting (57-99).
We got a lot of free throws (25-27), but that only served to limit the damage.

MOTM: Vadiveloo Moshoeli with 25 points and 7 rebounds.

Special mention to Nani Kxao Giqwa who scored 17 points in 13 minutes coming off the bench, including 3-4 from the 3-point line.

The next opponent will be Israel, currently ranked 4th in the world.

Israel easily beat us tonight (97-64): (82360)

The offensive strategy may not have been optimal and the Israeli defense was exceptional.
Our shooting accuracy was poor throughout the game (25.6%).

Muileki Simelaine's injury after only 8 minutes didn't help either.

No surprise. This 1st round of the World Championship is very difficult.
We continue to gain experience and generate enthusiasm, with hope for better days ahead.

MOTM: Anuiyelewa Nthite, who scored 18 points (8/16).

Next game against the Philippines, ranked 18th in the world.

We lost by a narrow margin tonight against the Philippines, 98-103: (82365)

The difference can be partly explained by the number of free throws. Our opponents got 11 more than us, with a high success rate (31-34).
Our guards were pretty good on defense, but struggled more on offense. It was the opposite for the SF position.
The RnG tactic didn't allow our inside players to compensate, but that was a deliberate choice.
Maybe I should have put more into this game, but that's always easier to say at the end of the game.
To be honest, I decided to maximize enthusiasm for the 2nd round, where we may have a chance to win a game or two.

MOTM: Anuiyelewa Nthite, who scored 34 points, shooting 12-22, including 6-10 from long range, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.

The last opponent in this 1st round will be Estonia, ranked 10th in the world.
