A player's stamina will drop, but it appears to average less than 1/2 a step per season. Probably training stamina one week per season will be enough to maintain it. However you may have to train rookies more than that to catch up.

Do the players also need 48 minutes of playing time for full training, if I train Stamina?

No. Team training is not based on minutes.

How crucial stamina training is?
I mean, I've just got a team and most of my players are wretched at it.

Their performance will deteriorate throughout the game.

One oddity is that if your players don't have good stamina, they will be substituted for more often. On a new team, you may think you are doing a good job on getting training minutes for everyone. But then when your starters get more stamina, they may play most of the game.

I kind of still don't understand the effect of stamina. Does it lower the players' performane only for one game, so towards the end of it? (=> fewer minutes per game) Or does it also effect his overall performance? So that he won't be playing as good towards the end of the season.

Stamina just has an effect on the current game.

In extreme cases, low stamina might cause less playing time, which in turn could reduce game shape, which might combine with the low stamina.

Note: lack of playing time does not have an effect on stamina. It did a couple of seasons ago. Now players simply lose stamina over time, especially if they have higher stamina.
