It's not 5 ball system.
At current system you have no chance to show without commentary you really don't like some message.

Surely it would not do the same as old system. In my proposal you would see that 250 like your messages and 150 don't like your messages. In old one you know just that average rating of your post is 3.5 balls, no matter how much users rank your post.
It's just on BB-staff whether they like or dislike my suggestion and decide (not) to implement it.

I suggest second option for rating the post. Now, there is possibility to rate the post +1, I would like to have also option for -1.
At the header of the post there would be This post orange balls for +1 as it is now and maybe red balls with a number for -1. The same for Overall Posts Rated of the user.
I think it would be better there to see both numbers and not only one comparing +1 and -1, because for example final result 0 can be 0 of +1 and 0 of -1 or 1000 of +1 and 1000 of -1 as well.

Actually, I like the idea, mostly because it deals with negative numbers. But I can't spend all day following Naker around trying to give him a -1.

Anyway, as for the suggestion, I'm sure it won't be implemented.
The reason they removed the 5 ball system was because giving 1 ball is negative and stops people from wanting to post.
On the other hand, this +1 system is more encouraging to post.

In the old system people would get 1 ball for asking questions in the help forum. This is not the type of forum we want to promote. New players should feel comfortable on the forums and feel able to ask for help without getting their posts rated poorly.

In this current system, the great posts will still get rated. No need to poorly rate the remaining posts, what would be the point?

There are plenty of posts that get +1 that have nothing great about them. Wade through any thread where people are complaining (whinging threads, I believe you would call them) and see if some crying chump with nothing to say gets his/her post rated highly.

I don't think this system encourages people to post excessively. It just makes people feel more comfortable posting when losers on the internet aren't rating their post down because of a spelling mistake, or because it is in a whinging thread, or because a newbie asked another question or for whatever other reason.

There is no reason we need to rate posts negatively. If you really don't want to see posts rated up then suggest for the entire post rating system to be removed. But there is no way that allowing negative ratings is in any way good for the game.
