Friendly Match : New Zealand topped Singapore 85-79.

Singapore's tactic were clear : evaluating Abdul-Hamid nerve as a dominator. However, he was brickin everything.

NZ took advantages of Hamid's cold first half shooting with 36-33 before Hamid explode with 10 3rd quarter points, but Steve Gillard superb defense brought Hamid back to his first half shooting, and Merlions were trailed 51-61.

At 4th, Merlions turn to Lau Jin Chin & Ang Han Yao to keep them competitive, as LJC keep driving to the basket and drawing fouls, meanwhile Ang Han Yao settle for some jumper and even hit a big three pointer. Lead changes several times, before again NZ Gillard pickpocketed Li Shi Keng for a breakaway dunk, giving NZ 83-79 lead with 20 seconds remaining. LJC shot were blocked by Ervin Dyer on next possession, and after a defensive rebounds, NZ iced the victory with two FT to make it 85-79.

Dyer led NZ with 19pts 13rebs. Haimona Ng had 15pts 9rebs. Abd Hamid led Singapore with 24pts but 12/32 FG. LJC has 18pts 8rebs 4asts and 3stls. 20yo Ang Han Yao was again superb with 16pts 12rebs 2stl 2blks performance.

Singapore will resume Tournament next week, facing strong team Phillipines.

Singapore suffered first defeat of Tournament, 79-97 by Phillipines.

Perhaps not yet, and still miles away for it.

Although with their finest U21 lineup, Merlions still unable to stay pace with one of Asian top team, Phillipines, resulted on 97-79 losses. Juan Umadhay led the Pinoys with 30pts 7rebs and 5blks to ride the easy win over Singapore, completely dominating smaller Lau Jin Chin over the post. The nearest deficit margin Singapore reached were 9 points on 3rd quarter, where Ang Han Yao hit the go ahead 3pointer, make the game 66-75. Although Phillipines bigman Dexter Zulueta went down at 4th quarter, still not enough for Merlions to made up their losses. The most obvious difference on the loss, were the rebounds, where Singapore were outrebounded 36-52. Also, Phillipines converted 23-29 FTs, where Singapore only have 8-14.

Li An Wen, Fong Chang Chao and Lin Chuan Loong all scored 12 pts for Singapore. Fong Chang Chao, the new U21 call out, were fouled out with 8 minutes left on 4th quarter.

Tournament Host Taiwan dealt Singapore to their second loss 96-72

Tian Sung Kwon 20pts 16rebs led Taiwan to defeat Singapore 96-72 through the dramatic 4th quarter, where they held Singapore with 15-3 run on the first five minutes and lead by 30 points.

Singapore still showed their biggest weaknesses, where they can't compete with Taiwanese solid bigmen like Tian Sun Kwong and Liu Yeong Aun, both combined for 32 rebounds from total 64 team rebounds.

Abdul Hamid led Merlion with 20pts 5asts and 9rebs, shot 6/11 from downtown but only 7/25 from field. Lau Jin Chin and Lee Yeow Jie has 13 and 12 pts respectively.

With Japan 50 points loss to Philipines last night, Singapore chance to advance to 2nd round is higher, as their two closest rival, Kazakhstan has -6 on Points Difference and Japan with -63. Singapore has 59 PD.

Singapore will close round 1 Finale versus Japan on next week.

Ouch.. Two seasons ago Malaysia U21 beat SGP U21 in the second phase of the qualifiers to cause SGP to end that round winless. This season is Malaysia's turn T_T

Haha... not so sure yet can beat Msia.. SGP team is still mediocre..so unfortunate we have to be in the same pool this season. And our pool do look like a hell ones... >.<

2nd Round Game 1 : Big 4th quarter lift Singapore over New Zealand 98-77

Hard to remember when was the last time victory over New Zealand, until the match just now.

After lead barely a point after third 62-61, Singapore start the last quarter with 19-7 run, taking advantage of the fatigued NZ players for tons of steals and fastbreak points, prompting NZ to call timeout after SGP last fastbreak dunk shot by Halim Mohd bin Noor, making it 81-69. However the timeout didn't help much for NZ to stop the bleeding, as Singapore kept extend the lead to 90-74 with 2 minutes left, and finished the game with all bench players on the floor.

Li An Wen lead SGP with 16pts 9rebs, Halim Mohd Noor 13pts, Lu Jun Siong & Fong Chang Chao both have 12pts. Those four players were damaging NZ painted area at most on fourth quarter. Playmaker Li Shi Keng had 11pts, 6 assists with 5/9 FG shooting, his first strong game with U21.

The victory eased SGP fans about their losses 79-85 from NZ on the last scrimmage games, and this also one of the important ones for Singapore to start their gruelin stretch, as Hongkong, Australia and the host Taiwan are awaiting.

Singapore will face their neighbour country, U21 Malaysia, on next week Monday 7pm.
