Thanks everyone! Thank you to the trainers who have given me a team I can use different tactics with this season. We have a lot of great builds and though at a disadvantage with salary and DMI against Taiwan and even more-so by Poland, we came out ahead.

First I looked at the Taiwan result and was very "Oh my god, their PD is good, a loss to Poland and we'll see the worlds spot go to a team we beat."

Then I looked at the match viewer and saw that Poland used more effort and was very "Yep, there goes worlds."

Then I scrolled down the play-by-play and we had a beautiful first quarter and held a fairly comfortable lead throughout and was very "Yyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm glad to have Canada in the worlds, especially without selling the farm on enthusiasm. I really wouldn't care for being there just to lose every game from bad enthusiasm, and played this second chance accordingly.

Game recap to follow.

Poland 97 Canada 110. (37524) 3-0 and off to the world championships! What more needs to be said? A lot!

Facing a favored look inside offense using more effort, the Canadians played the game of their lives up to this point.

This Canadian team has skills. This Canadian team has heart. This Canadian team has well trained balanced players who can play as a team.

How'd we win?
1. Held them to just over 50% shooting while making almost 50% ourselves.
2. 11-for-27 from downtown. Just, YES! 1-for-9 for them.
3. We don't foul a lot. They had just 7 free throws using look inside.
4. We don't turn the ball over. We had just 2 turnovers. That's just 13 TO's in our last 3 games.
5. We have depth. Starters +39 and backups +26.
6. Everyone moves the ball. Starters with 5,5,5,7, and 4 assists. Fun to watch.
7. We have Cletus. Ha, just kidding.

SF Girouard had another outstanding game. 12/24 (3/7, 2/2) for 29pts, 5reb, 5ast.
PG Cotterell shot the lights out coming in from the bench. 7/8 (4/5, 4/6) for 22 pts in just 20 minutes.
SG Auge shot 7/10 giving us that scoring from the SG position Canada sometimes lacks.
PG Bacon had a bounce back game. 8/13 for 16 pts and 4 blks.

Enjoy this one for a week and back on the court next Monday facing even stiffer competition.

GO CANADA!

Introducing Canada U21's new home court. Inspired by Canada's nature and national colors. Hope you like it.

Defeat today (38274) to Italy 96-83. We hung with the world's #1 team for three quarters out of four, and we can take solace in that.

Going for an all out win here would have cost us enthusiasm, and I'm targeting third or fourth in the group not first. There are other games that are must win, and this wasn't one of them.

Game MVPs: Hall had by far his best game of the campaign with 33 pts (12/18, 3/4, 6/8), 10 reb, 4 ast, and Bashir followed with 18 pts (7/10, 0/1, 4/5, 6 reb, showing that the inside iso can work for our interior players.

Game LVPs: The rest of the roster shot a combined 10/54.

In the other games:
Magyarország (Hungary) took down the USA in overtime, using a patient and more effort.
Singapore over Senegal by one. Senegal going CRU vs TIE and almost pulling it out.

On this day Italy was just better than us, and we tip our caps. Next up is Magyarország.

0-2 at worlds after a tight 91-77 loss to Hungary (38276). Four point game into the fourth quarter then they pulled away. We had already pretty much lost this one due to the game shape difference, and their inside guys were too good.

Enthusiasm saved for the matches we need them in!

MVP: Cotterell putting up 51 in patient!
LVP: Auge maybe. 0/4 with 4 to in 19 minutes

Singapore (1-1) USA (1-1) and Senegal (0-2) in the weeks to come.

Whew. Narrow 79-71 (38280) win over Singapore who gave it their all and definitely had a couple over-performers on the day.

Our princeton attack was stifled for most of the game, and we had only 3 assists at half time. Cotterell injured early and Guèvremont had to play a lot of minutes. A close game until 5:30 left in the 4th where we went on a 15-6 to finish it off.

Game MVP: Hall 18 pts (8/20, but 1/7 1/6 ouch), 14 reb, 5 ast, 2 stl, 2 blk
Game LVP: Zongzhi 4 pts (2/11) despite PP100 showing 101.7. Ya, figure that one out.

Standings with 2 group games left:
team w l +/- remaining
--------------------------------------------------
italy 3 0 43 senegal hungary
hungary 3 0 68 singapore italy
usa 1 2 69 canada singapore
canada 1 2 -19 usa senegal
singapore 1 2 -35 hungary usa
senegal 0 3 -126 italy canada

Top 4 teams qualify for next round. GO CANADA
