Obviously random plays some kind of a role in the calculation, but the basis of the game engine are still the skills. So if you know the formulae, you have only the random to beat. It's a challenge to get all those best players (considering your available income) and keep them healthy. So the guy who knows the skills needed, is only playing against random. If he additionally knows the effort level constants and can calculate the random range of a win or a loss, then he has a pretty big advantage of choosing effort and tactics.
Saying this game is mostly about random, would make a 5k player teams, beat BBB champions 50% of a time. That is just bolonies on your part...

You can be worried when you see BB-Ryan winning the B3 with 2-3 and averaging 10 SB's x game (then you will know that BB-Charles said to him how important SB was...), otherwise no need to complain that some BB's ''have an advantage''

And that there is a % of random when simulating the games is nothing new.

But on your statement i disagree on 1 thing;

You are forgetting that you don't play alone, the opponent also plays so it's not like just making the lineup and playing against the random issue. It's playing against unknown tactics from the opponent(f.e. the pace of the opponent affects you) and then the random fact.

Obvisouly if you know the formulas, you have an advantatge over the opponent, but i doubt it can arrive to something like 70-30% for you.

The NBA is random but refs, coaches and players are still not suppose to bet. For good reason.

But claiming that no BB currently has any idea how the GE actually works, is even a bigger problem. That would be admitting, that game creators have absolutely no idea what is going on.

Obviously the creators of the game engine know it and they know it the best. My guess is they are the only ones who really know the GE. Remember that a) this is a code base that has (tens of) thousands of lines, and b) from the technology point of view this is the biggest tangible asset of the company. These guys (is it mainly Charles...? I don't know exactly) are working only part time in BB in addition to having full-time jobs. As far as they have publicly made it known, the key priority for them is to teach the new full-time developers to run the game and get up to speed with the development tasks. I would imagine this includes the GE at least to some degree, although the first priorities are probably some other areas of the game (such as overall site performance). Well, now we know that there will be further delays with the new staff, since two of the latest three additions did not pan out.

The game engine has some known weaknesses and bugs, but it is a great piece of code and works well. As far as I can tell, the game engine is not among the main factors for the site troubles we have seen lately. Naturally it is important for the GE bugs to be fixed and for new developments to take place in this part of the code. These developments however need to take a back seat until the old BB staff can fully concentrate on their own tasks in BB and/or until the new BB staff can take care of it. The situation is not ideal.
