Better than Georgetown, whom now has a consistent habit of getting tossed early in 1st rounds.

True. I'm a Florida guy so the relative ineptitude of Georgetown vs. Minnesota only matters in the sense that Georgetown's failure means that they won't have to face the Gators again while Minnesota did have to. ;)

Aaron Craft all 28 seconds looking like Kobe......recognized the switch and waved off Deshawn Thomas, being played for the drive all the way.....DAGGER, calmly raises for three, ballgame!
Arizona....the best team west of the big river is next.
Potential "all Big Ten final 4" is still very possible!
Go Bucks!

As much as an all B1G final four sounds awesome... as an IU fan I really don't want it haha. I do NOT want to play Michigan again. Much less do I want to go through Syracuse and likely Miami, only to play Michigan and THEN either MSU or OSU.

Ugh.

Screw it. Go B1G!

Go IU till the championship game!:)
Does anyone think based on what they have seen from Florida GC that they might have enough to squeeze one more? The way they ran on a good SD St. team, very good guard play.

Yes. At some point (and it may be next game) they're going to let up and lose their edge from everyone telling them how good they are. On current form though I think you'd struggle to find a team that runs a better fastbreak.

If they have a chance, it won't be their running, but it would have to be their press being absolutely lights out that night and the Gators not clicking. They've been prone to lapses - none more evident than the last minute of each half against Arizona, where a team that basically controlled the entire game otherwise suddenly could not inbound the ball successfully. The problem for Dunk City though is that Florida can run if they need to, and can go inside and outside effectively on offense in the half court, and their defense is exceptional. I hate to see this matchup come because my wife has family in Fort Myers so I'm delighted to see this story, but I grew up a Gator, went to school there and no wonderful story can top that loyalty.

I found out on sportstalk radio that before the start of the season, FGC asked Florida for a scrimmage and they refused....a scrimmage....now they meet for much larger stakes....You think Gulf Coast is motivated....this game is a lock that it won't be a blowout.....this has now turned into strait up bragging rights and I strongly believe to the core that what goes around comes around!
Reminds me last year this time around.... The coach of the Michigan football team called Ohio State, Ohio out of disrespect, thereby offending two schools, Oh St. and the Ohio U Bobcats from the underrated MAC......well Michigan LOST their first round game to Ohio ......the real Ohio, bobcats not buckeyes.
What goes around comes around.
Go FGC! From a Buckeye fan!

They're probably not the only team that tried to scrimmage Florida, though, and I'm certain they weren't turned away out of disrespect. Several of the players on the Gators squad were recruited by Enfield when he was an assistant at FSU, so while the national story may well be about how the high and mighty Gators may overlook a team that came out of nowhere, the fact is that Donovan knows what a challenge they're going to face. Iif they lose it won't be because FGCU was more motivated or UF was overlooking them, but because the Eagles just were better that night - and if the Gators win it will be because they were better that night. Motivation is nice and everything, but if Charles Barkley came here and peed on my children I still couldn't finish within 20 of him in a game of 21.

Well Billy can't, shoot, defend, out pass for them. I'm looking to see the focus of Florida more than anything, of they "think"that they are better rather than showing it, it will be exploited. Donavan will really need to dot his I's and cross his T's, against a team with nothing to lose.
Um....is it apparent they are not a 15 seed? With nothing to gage from the near past how could the selection commitee have seen this coming.
That Barkley comment....i win by default because he would be in jail, but I get quest you are saying.......FGC has a snowballs chance in florida eh?

Coming out with a sense of entitlement and not respecting their opponent would have been a concern for the Florida team of three or four seasons ago. It shouldn't be a problem for the current squad - if anything, they're more the type of squad that if they are clearly better than the opposition, they try to put them away. They've had lapses in focus but those have been more situational, mostly against teams that could press them and occasionally once they get cold or fumbly they can stay that way for a while and that's what happened against Ole Miss and Arizona in particular, and somewhat the last two times they played Alabama, excepting that they got hot again vs. the Tide and not against the Rebels or Arizona.

In one sense they're not a 15 seed, since they are in the sweet 16 and rightfully so if you've seen their games. On the other hand, Georgetown is a "Get out of this round free" card to a double digit seed and they beat a #7. Essentially, if they had been a 10 seed and played the games in a different order (and Georgetown somehow beat whoever got that 15) it would have been no less impressive. But the reason they're a 15 is that they weren't even the regular season champs for the Atlantic Sun (and since two of those teams are from right here in Jacksonville, I am more familiar with that league than pretty much any other given my general apathy toward hoops until March). They lost twice to Lipscomb, and that's a team that finished under .500 in a league that is about three good teams away from almost being a mid-major.

I'm not saying at all that it's a snowball's chance game. What I am saying is that ascribing any significant change to a team's chance of winning because of motivation is irrelevant (at least when both teams are well-coached). If FGCU's press is on fire (they're top 20 in the nation in steals) and they do a much better job of protecting the ball (274th in the nation in turnovers) and their defense is actually working in the halfcourt (179th in scoring defense) then of course they'll have a good shot. If they don't, they could see Florida put the game out of reach. It'll be a fun game to watch, and I wish FGCU was playing anyone else because I don't want either team to lose, but I figure pretty much only Florida fans won't be all in on the FGCU bandwagon.

(Hey, I didn't ever tell you this, but I have three of the final four teams as being from the Big Ten in my BB bracket. I picked Florida to win it all but not because I thought they would, though I thought they could, but just because when they're close to good enough to do it I can't really pick against them.)

I heard someone else say this, and I agree with it.

I think that the committee set the schedule this year for a bit more unpredictability. For example, I really didn't think that Gonzaga should've been a #1 seed in the first place, and their poor performance shows that. I don't know, though. Maybe it's just me.
