I am without my 3rd best player against Buckners. And I forgot to set my lineup. So playing out of position for training and PF is a blank since Farmer is injured. And one of my top guards is on the bench. 13 point margin in my favor at half time, but we'll see if I can hold on.
You were able to hold on, at the end somewhat easily.
When I take a look at the match viewer, it doesn't show that starter would've been empty, as a new player for PF starting position (to replace Farmer) has been defined by GE automatically. Thank you for honestly mentioning about this though.
In general, in HGL matches it's not advisable to leave starting position empty (and like you said, this wasn't intentional) as these HGL games do not affect training.
Good thing also is, that we do not have to remember to set lineups for each match
(except for playoffs!), but we can set bunch of them before match start dates are closing in. Of course then injuries can mix up the situation, but for that reason it is very much advisable to:
A) set up your HGL match lineups/tactics well ahead of match day
B) set replacements (also another player for "reserve" position, preferably another player than 1st subbed in player in your depth chart) for each position (C, PF, SF, SG, PG)
C) keep an eye on your injuries, and try to remember to set corrected lineups if (especially your key) players get injured.
D) check your "default lineup" now and then, by clicking a match tactics setup-link on your schedule page, especially if you have a team with low number of players in your roster, and/or if you have sold/fired players recently. Buzzerbeater uses your default lineup (which might eventually include too little amount of players due to injuries and/or sales/firings) if you forget to setup your lineup for the match.
These A)-D) are not pointed to any manager especially, but serve as a general refresher/reminder...
I realized I may have not mentioned about leaving starter positions empty elsewhere in rules than in this short "Injury exception/example #2":
Please note that for instance if you'd have only 5-6 players in your team and 1-3 of them are injured, it is possible/acceptable for that reason only (this exception applies only to absolutely necessary injury situations!) to dress also injured players to the starting lineup to fill all the 5 positions.
It is therefore possible to get away from this situation with only 0-50 forfeit loss, and without triggering more strict Level 3 penalty (see below, B)).
But again, to me (when I watch your match from the match viewer) it didn't show up like any of the starting positions would've been empty. Maybe you had someone set as a substituted player for PF position? I don't know if GE screws things up by calling up a Lucky Fan, if only one player is set up for all depth chart sections (opening lineup, bench and reserve) for one position (such as PF)... Does anyone have experience on this?
Anyway, good thing was you had so many players in your match lineup, that coach didn't had to call Lucky Fans to join the roster; any time that happens, it then causes a forfeit loss.
